Gardening Tips

n This is the best time to prune roses. Cut them up to the budding eye pointing outwards. Also remove dead and dying wood.
n Rose plants meant for exhibitions should be pruned severely down to three or four eyes. Replace soil around the roots with farm yard manure. Apply 90 gm per plant of fertiliser mixture containing four parts ammonium sulphate, four parts super phosphate and one part muriate of potash.
n Lawns will require regular mowing, weeding and rolling. They may need water if the soil dries up.
n Tomato, brinjal and other vegetables may be affected by leaf curl virus and other diseases. The diseased plants should be uprooted to check further spread of the disease.
n Sowing of peas can be taken up now. Arkel is a good dwarf variety which is ready for reaping in two months.
