Gm Told To Pay $33m

A jury ordered General Motors to pay $33 million to the family of a 13-year-old boy who was burned to death in a 1991 gas tank fire. Jurors agreed with allegations by Robert and Constance McGee that the lack of a protective shield over the gas tank turned their 1983 oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser into a potential bomb with the explosiveness of 100 sticks of dynamite. The McGees were awarded $60 million in damages, but jurors said GM was only 55 per cent responsible for Shane McGees death.
