Indian Firms Bag Major Deals At Uk Fair

DCM Engg and Madhya Pradesh Export Corporation struck kingsized deals at the CIIs three-day Made in India fair which ended in Manchester yesterday.

More than 5,000 visitors turned out to inspect the goods and hammer out deals at the fair which was the first of its kind in Europe. Around 60 Indian companies including some corporate giants like the Tatas, ITC Ltd and Greaves Ltd, took part in the fair which targeted businesses in the industrial heartland of Britain. Several public sector and state enterprises also participated in the fair.

The biggest stall at the three day fair was taken by the Tata group which had its Loadbeta vehicles on display. A range of Tata Group products was also on show.

 

The Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) tried to hardsell its Y2K products which are offered as solutions for the MIllennium bombshell which is facing the computer industry.

This is the CIIs fifth Made in India show. However, this is the first time that the Made in India show has been held in Western Europe. Says a CII spokesman: The idea was to project the best of Indian industry.

Nearly all the visitors at the fair which was held at a sporting stadium in Manchester were business delegates. The fair was opened on Thursday by Indian Industry Minister Murasoli Maran and his British counterpart Lord Clinton-Davis. Speaking at the inaugural, Maran said that the fair was a chance for British industry to judge the, strides that Indian has made in the last 50 years.
