Intuc Urges Cil Officers To Defer Strike

BSCAL

Singh, who is also the president of the state unit of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc), was in Patna in connection with the 229th national working committee of Intuc. The strike call was given by the coal mines officers association of India (Cmoai) and the All India mining persons association (Aimpa) pressing for revised salaries, ITC encashment, encashment of coal industry allowance, abolition of interview system for promotions etc. Singh said the strike will affect such sectors as railways, steel, power and coal and will cause heavy loss to the country.

The proposed strike would also not augur well for CIL which is already in the red, he said.

While urging the two unions to defer the strike, he backed the officials' demands and said that while the first four national wage agreements had taken into account the salary revision of the workers and the officers, the fifth and the latest wage agreements had left out the officials.

The officers are demanding the implementation of the new wage structure with effect from January 1, 1996.

Singh said his Federation and Intuc was opposing the strike on political grounds.

Meanwhile, the Cmoai has reiterated its resolve to go ahead with the strike and said the CIL headquarters in Calcutta would be gheraoed today.
