Lankan Strike

Representatives of Sri Lanka's estate companies were meeting President Chandrika Kumaratunga on Tuesday afternoon in a bid to end a wage dispute that has halted work by more than 4,00,000 workers in the country's plantations. On Monday, striking workers refused to accept wages offered by plantation companies at a daily rate of Rs 93, opting to hold back until a full settlement has been reached.
