Listless Movement Continues, Indices Stay In A Narrow Groove

The sentiment continued to be listless on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday. The NSE-50 registered a marginal movement losing 0.70 points over the previous close, with the days close being 892.07 points.

There was some amount of activity with selective buying by domestic institutions, as well as, some small funds towards the end of the trading session. Among the prominent stocks that saw some movement was ITC, which declined in the day by Rs 6.2, while the Glaxo scrip saw some buying interest and registered a gain of Rs 3.25 during the session.

With the Reliance results due to be announced today, the stock registered an upward movement gaining Rs 4.85, which marketmen say is more due to traditional sentiments when they are taken up, rather than an expectation of good results.

 

The NSE-50 Index opened at 891.42 touched a low during the day at 880.76, before reaching a high of 893.33 points and finally closed at 892.07 points.

The net traded value at the exchange was Rs 1018.92 crore, involving 542.68 lakh shares and the number of trades were 95,917.

About 88 per cent of the total turnover volumes was made up of the top four stocks, which were SBI, ITC, Reliance and Tisco scrips. The volumes in each of these scrips were Rs 390.14 crore, Rs 234.35 crore, Rs 190.40 crore and Rs 79.23 crore, respectively.

Among the pivotals that saw a considerable decline during yesterdays trading was ACC, which lost close to Rs 29 in a single day. Bajaj Auto continued its downward trend losing about Rs 7, while Brooke Bond Lipton lost Rs 3.6 and HDFC Rs 35.7.

Among the other scrips that witnessed activity were MTNL, Tata Power, Bajaj Auto, HPCL, Glaxo India, IPCL, Hind Lever, Gujarat Ambuja and Ranbaxy Labs.
