Major Scrips Led By Itc Take A Tumble

The market weakened further as prices of major scrips witnessed a downslide on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The price hammering was largely on account of media reports of Fera violations by tobacco major ITC.
The NSE opened at 879.81, touched a high of 880.15, before reaching a low of 851.77. It closed at 866.57, losing 15 points over the previous close of 881.57. The net traded value was Rs 935.99 crore while the net traded quantity was 507.79 lakh shares.
On the National Stock Exchange, the ITC scrip yesterday clocked a turnover of Rs 125.40 crore and was the third highest traded stock on the bourse. The stock suffered a setback in the opening session itself when it shed nearly Rs 10 from its overnight close of Rs 274.75.
After opening at Rs 265, the days high came at Rs 265.25. It then slumped to the days low of Rs 255.55. The price band for the stock on the NSE was 7 per cent and the scrip fell by Rs 19.20 (6.98 per cent), informed NSE sources.
The top five actively traded scrips were the State Bank of India (Rs 333.92 crore), Reliance Industries (Rs 242.98 crore), ITC (Rs 125.40 crore), Tisco (Rs 118.24 crore) and L&T (Rs 26.89 crore). Hectic activity was also observed at other counters led by Telco (Rs 14.55 crore), BSES (Rs 12.57 crore), ACC (Rs 8.77 crore), Bajaj Auto (Rs 5.72 crore), MRF (Rs 4.97 crore), MTNL (Rs 4.76 crore), Tata Power (Rs 2.44 crore), Oriental Bank (Rs 2.01 crore), ICICI (Rs 1.81 crore), Indo Gulf Fertilisers (Rs 1.60 crore), Bank of Rajasthan (Rs 1.43 crore), IPCL (Rs 1.30 crore), Gujarat Ambuja Cement (Rs 1.06 crore), Gorden Herbert (Rs 0.97 crore), Castrol India (Rs 0.97 crore), IDBI (Rs 0.95 crore), Lakme Ltd (Rs 0.83 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 0.77 crore), Hindustan Lever (Rs 0.71 crore) and CESC Ltd (Rs 0.66 crore).
