Ministry For North-East Proposed

Several experts, officials and leaders from the region have been demanding the creation of such a ministry, but it has never been considered until now.

Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who is now on a five-day tour of the region, will be holding talks with chief ministers and other leaders on this issue. Some of the chief ministers have themselves demanded the establishment of such a ministry.

The idea behind the move is to focus attention on the neglected region by bringing in all subjects from other ministries relating to the region under one roof.->
