Prices Fall On Hectic Selling

Pivotals prices declined further on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday following speculative selling pressure. Reflecting the bearish trend, the NSE-50 index opened below the psychological barrier of 1000 mark to 988.70, declined further to touch a day's low of 965.85 and closed at 972.65, showing a net loss of 27.35 points over the previous close of 1000 points.

Similarly, the Midcap index fell further by 21.74 points to 1067.80 against the previous close of 1089.54 points. The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 1710.91 crore, and net traded quantity was Rs 788.69 lakh.

State Bank of India stood first in terms of business volume registering the highest turnover of Rs 509.81 crore, followed by Reliance Industries Rs 492.49 crore, ITC Rs 516.42 crore, Tisco Rs 153.54 crore and Telco Rs 36.13 crore.

 

Hectic activity was also observed in counters like L&T Rs 30.73 crore ACC Rs 30.01 crore, MTNL Rs 28.92 crore, Bajaj Auto Rs 26.63 crore, BSES Ltd Rs 15.86 crore, Tata Power Rs 8.90 crore and Guj Ambuja Rs 3.23 crore, Oriental Bank Rs 3.19 crore, Hindustan Lever Rs 2.97 crore, Sterlite Rs 2.30 crore, The Bank of Rajasthan Rs 1.49 crore, Vysya Bank 1.48 crore, Reliance Capital 1.44 crore, HPCL Rs 1.40 crore, Colgate Palmolive Rs 1.31 crore, BPL Ltd Rs 1.25 crore, IDBI Rs 1.24 crore, Siemens Rs 1.20 crore and Cipla Rs 1.08 crore.

The top five gainers were Nuchen, Mac Industries, MP Agro Fertilisers, Aditya Spinners and Vulcan Engineers, while the losers were Gujarat Optical Comm, Dataline and Research, Growmore Solvent, MB Industries and Lance Indus.

Meanwhile, share prices also declined on the Over the Counter Exchange of India (Otcei) due to lack of buying support from investors. Reflecting the weak trend, the OTC composite index opened at 96.12, reached a high of 96.21 and closed at 95.89, showing a decrease of 0.04 points over the previous close of 95.93.

The total turnover amounted to Rs 125.38 lakh, involving 2,00,907 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed debentures segment contributing Rs 113.42 lakh.
