Trading Volumes Move Up To Rs 173 Crore

Trading remained lackustre at the wholesale debt market segment of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) which saw deals to the tune of Rs 173.08 crore yesterday.

This was however an improvement over Tuesdays volumes which stood at Rs 132 crore.

The inter-bank call money rates remained range bound at 5.75 per cent to 6 per cent.

During the day, however, calls hardened to 6.5 per cent and this had a effect on government securities which saw a minor retracement. According to dealers, overnight call rates are expected to drop on Friday when the second leg of the Rs 3600-crore repo transaction takes place.

 

The 13.50 per cent gilt maturing in 1998, which saw no deals on Tuesday, was traded for Rs 35 crore at 11.47 per cent yields.The deal was struck at Rs 103.18.

Another actively traded security was the 12 per cent central government security maturing in 1999. The gilt was traded for Rs 15 crore at 12.67 per cent yields.

The trade, which is to be settled the same day, was concluded at Rs 99.65.

The 13.40 per cent gilt maturing in 1999, continued to witness trading with deals to the tune of Rs 15 crore being struck at Rs 101.42.

Deals on Tuesday were struck at Rs 101.40. These deals are to be settled the same day.
