Real Image ready for big investments

Real Image Media Technologies, that had entered the digital cinema business in 2005 with the launch of its much-acclaimed digital cinema technology, has now hit the growth trajectory.

According to known sources, many venture capitalists are evincing a keen interest to invest in the company and the company is likely to roll out its next round of investment shortly.

The digital cinema platform that had been introduced by the company includes a digital cinema software and equipment which will be located at the cinema halls while the digital rights and media management platform will be located at the company's premises.

Through this, the company will control the equipment at the cinema halls.

According to the company, the high-tech digital platform has been deployed on the field by many customers like Zee (50 theatres), Landmark US (125), independent theatre owners in India (80) and Europe (11).

Movies of Rajnikant, Kamal Hasan and well-known film makers in the US and Europe have been released on the Real Image platform, said company sources.

Several other major players in the US, Asia and India are at various stages of evaluating the technology for large scale deployment, they added.

Recently, venture capitalists Vijay Angadi and Vasu Devan have invested in the company and are serving on its board. Devan, a graduate from IIT Madras, has incubated many a successful company in Bangalore. His last company was acquired by GE.

Angadi, who is a pioneer in the VC business and had previously invested in and helped build companies like Praj and Vimta Labs from an early stage.

"Real Image is emerging as a leader in digital cinema globally. The company's real time satellite based digital cinema platform is also being put into numerous other applications that are presently in the stealth mode," says Angadi.

The company had only built its US operations last year and put in place the building blocks for the rapid scaling up of the business globally, he added.
