Free Wi-Fi project in East Delhi by December

To set up 1,000 hotspots at 571 locations

State to begin Wi-Fi services in East Delhi by year-end

The city government will begin a free Wi-Fi project in East Delhi by year-end, setting up 1,000 'hotspots' at 571 locations.

A Request for Proposal will be floated soon and the department of information technology will implement the project, stated the government's Dialogue and Development Commission vice-chairman, Ashish Khetan.

It said the preparations included a three-day stakeholder consultation on April 23, 24 and 27 last year. “The meeting was planned to ensure active involvement of various stakeholders from industry, society, technical community and various departments and agencies of the government.

An experts committee was also constituted, comprising officers from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, departments of the central and city governments, the National Informatics Centre and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. PwC Consultancy Services was engaged for specific aspects of implementing Wi-Fi in Delhi.
