Congress has lost opportunity by not supporting Oppn over Adani issue: AAP

The AAP on Monday attacked the Congress, saying the grand old party lost an opportunity by not supporting the Opposition in the fight over the issues of Adani and raids by central agencies. AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wins the elections as he gets to choose his competitor who is the former Congress chief. Bharadwaj made the remarks at a press conference here. When asked about the Congress not being a signatory to the letter written by some opposition leaders to PM Modi alleging "blatant misuse" of central agencies, the AAP leader said, "Congress had an opportunity to support the Opposition over the Adani issue and the CBI-ED raids. But they sided with the BJP." "They (Congress) are saying in 95 per cent of the cases the raids are wrong. What the Congress means by saying that is they (raids) are 95 per cent wrong when they happen with Congress leaders but are five per cent correct for other ..

No irregularities found in engagement of guest teachers : AAP minister

No irregularities were detected in the engagement of guest teachers in Delhi government schools during the probe ordered by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, city Education Minister Raaj Kumar Anand said Monday. He said that according to the probe report, there was no "ghost teacher" and the documents of only 109 guest teachers were "incomplete". No immediate reaction was available from the LG office on the same. In September 2022, the LG had ordered an internal inquiry into alleged irregularities in the engagement of guest teachers in Delhi government schools and embezzlement of funds through payment of salaries to "ghost" teachers. "The LG's probe report found nothing such as 'ghost' teacher in Delhi government schools. Every teacher has been coming to school on time and marking biometric attendance every day. Only the documents of 109 guest teachers were incomplete and they have been notified about the same," Anand said. He further said the report did not mention any "embezzlemen

Opposition write to PM on misuse of central agencies; slam Sisodia arrest

Leaders of nine opposition parties, including Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, K Chandrasekhar Rao, have written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging "blatant misuse" of central agencies against members of the opposition. The other signatories of the letter are Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Sharad Pawar (NCP), Farooq Abdullah (Jammu & Kashmir National Conference), Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena, UBT) and Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party. "The blatant misuse of central agencies against the members of the opposition appears to suggest that we have transitioned from being a democracy to an autocracy the misuse of central agencies and constitutional offices like that of the Governor - to settle scores outside of the electoral battlefield is strongly condemnable as it does not bode well for our democracy, the letter said. Centre should increase Delhi's share of water, says Saurabh Bhardwaj

AAP's national spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj, who will soon be joining the Delhi cabinet as a minister, said that the city's population has risen manifold since 1994 but its water share has remained unchanged and asked the Centre to increase it. Bhardwaj said the priorities of the AAP government are infrastructure and providing clean water to the residents in Delhi, apart from education and health. "We are trying to beautify stretches of Delhi with street furniture and creation of walking and sitting spaces. At 10 places, one-kilometre-long stretches have been redeveloped. Now the plan is to extend it to the rest of Delhi," he told PTI in an interview. Bhardwaj, who is also the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, said they have promised that before the next election, Yamuna will be cleaned. "The sewage that goes into Yamuna we will trap it and through different sewage treatment plants and release clean water into the river. Human waste flows into drains from all unauthorised ...

Delhi govt calls LG mini-dictator after he returns file on teacher training

Delhi government on Saturday claimed that LG V K Saxena has returned the file on Finland teacher training programme in "flagrant violation" of the Constitution and SC orders, and described him as a "mini-dictator". The lieutenant governor has given in-principle approval to the city government's proposal to send primary teachers of state-run schools to Finland for training but with certain conditions, officials said on Saturday. Saxena, in his approval, said he was okaying the proposal in the "interest of facilitating an executive decision flawed that it may be, rather than joining issues to enable anarchic disruption". He also noted that there was refusal by the Arvind Kejriwal government to bring on record the "impact assessment of the foreign training programmes conducted in the past". Hitting out at the LG, the Delhi government, in a statement, alleged that he returned the proposal after sitting on it for four months and ensuring that it became infructuous since the trainings w

Arvind Kejriwal, Mann to sound AAP's poll bugle in Madhya Pradesh on Mar 14

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will sound poll bugle for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections on March 14 at a rally in Bhopal to be addressed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, a party functionary said on Saturday. AAP organisational general secretary Sandeep Pathak told reporters that the Kejriwal-led party will contest all 230 seats in the elections, due later this year. "Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann are coming to Bhopal on March 14. This is going to be the first election rally in MP. The people of MP want to vote for a change, Pathak said. Citing the result of last year's civic polls in MP, he said AAP would form the next government in the central state. In local body elections held in Madhya Pradesh in July-August, 2022, the AAP claimed to have garnered a 6.3 per cent vote share. The party had fielded about 1,500 candidates for councillor posts in urban body polls. Of these, 40 won, while 135-140 finished runner-up. In panchayat

Delhi mayor being 'remote-controlled' by AAP for civic governance: BJP

The BJP on Saturday alleged that Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi sits like a "dummy" in municipal meetings and, instead of exercising her own wisdom for civic governance, is being "remote-controlled" by senior AAP leaders for decision-making. Senior BJP leader and former South Delhi mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat made the accusations during a press conference at the saffron party's Delhi unit headquarters. There was no immediate reaction from Oberoi or the AAP. Oberoi either "remains mute" or reacts with a sense of delay, as if she has received "some instructions" from AAP leaders like Atishi, who is mostly "remotely feeding information" to her over mobile, Sehrawat alleged. In meetings, it is expected that a mayor will exercise his or her own wisdom and work with all the councillors and other leaders for the city's collective good, she said. "But, in the meetings with department heads and others that she attends, AAP leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj accompany her. And she sits there like

Delhi court reserves order on CBI plea for 3 more days of Sisodia's custody

A Delhi court on Saturday reserved its order on a plea by the CBI seeking further three-day custody of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, arrested in a corruption case related to the excise policy. CBI's plea was opposed by Sisodia's lawyer who said the inefficiency of the agency to complete its probe cannot be a ground for remand and he cannot be asked to incriminate himself. Sisodia, who was produced before special judge M K Nagpal, said non-cooperation cannot be a ground for custody and opposed the CBI's plea for his remand. There was heavy security presence in and outside the Rouse Avenue Courts premises. The supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest outside the premises and raised slogans. Sisodia was granted five-day CBI custody on Monday. The CBI on Sunday evening had arrested Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22.

AAP workers protest outside party office before Sisodia's court hearing

Scores of Aam Aadmi Party workers staged a protest in central Delhi on Saturday demanding the release of senior party leader Manish Sisodia, who has been arrested by the CBI in connection with the excise policy case. The protest erupted before Sisodia's appearance before the Rouse Avenue court, only a few metres from the party office on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg. The workers raised slogans like 'Manish Sisodia ko riha karo' (release Manish Sisodia). They hit the street hours after the AAP's Delhi convener held a meeting with some of the workers.
