Air India asked me to fly in broken seat or get refund: Goa AAP leader

Goa AAP president Amit Palekar on Friday evening claimed Air India told him that his seat on a Delhi to Seoul flight was broken, and he could either choose to fly or take a refund, which prompted the airline to respond that it was "reviewing his concern". Palekar shared a post and video on X about his experience. "I am at the counter (at the Delhi airport) and I have been told by the staff...that my confirmed seat is unserviceable, it does not recline. I have to give a consent, which is a kind of forced consent because I have no other choice but to fly because I have connecting flights....and Air India is saying either we will give you complete refund and you choose another option, or you fly this seat which is a broken seat," he said in the video. In his post, Palekar wrote, "Welcome to @airindia. This is a common feature for those flying on Air India to face this ordeal of being told that your seat is not reclining or broken after paying full fare." "This is my third time. I ...

Air India's first legacy B777 returns after heavy refresh, upgrades

Air India on Wednesday received the first of its legacy Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft after heavy refresh and the refresh of the remaining 12 planes is expected to be completed by year-end, according to officials. Since the refit of the legacy B777 aircraft, which was to start last year, has been delayed due to supply chain issues, the airline decided to go for heavy refresh of these planes. Heavy refresh of an aircraft includes having new carpets, seat covers, cushions and fixing broken seats. Air India has a total of 40 legacy wide-body planes -- 13 B777s and 27 B787s. The heavy refresh of the B777-300 ER was done in Singapore and completed in around 50 days. The heavy refresh of all the legacy B777s is expected to be completed by the end of this year, the officials said. The refreshed aircraft will be deployed on the domestic route for one or two days and later for ultra-long operations. The B777s are mainly deployed for ultra long haul flights connecting Toronto, Vancouver (Cana

Air India seeks lower landing fees for long-haul flights at Delhi airport

Air India has sought incentives for increasing the international to international traffic at the Delhi airport as well as lower landing charges for long-haul and ultra long-haul flights. The suggestions have been made by the Tata Group-owned airline to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) on the tariff proposal for the Delhi airport for the 2024-29 control period. The airline is slowly expanding its wide-body operations as well as network to cater to rising air traffic demand. When asked about the airline's suggestions, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson told PTI that economic structure of the market should be supportive of the efforts to make India an aviation hub. DIAL, the operator of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, has proposed different user fees for economy and business class passengers as well as for peak and off-peak hours. According to Air India, the variable tariff proposal needs to include incentive for increasing I
