UK regional airline Flybe slumps into bankruptcy for second time in 3 years

Struggling UK regional airline Flybe collapsed for the second time in three years Saturday, putting jobs on the line and leaving passengers stranded. The airline initially slumped into bankruptcy in March 2020, shedding 2,400 jobs, as coronavirus restrictions decimated the travel industry. It relaunched in April last year, flying many of the same routes out of Belfast, Birmingham and London Heathrow. In a statement, the grounded flyer said it had called in bankruptcy accountants again, and warned passengers not to travel to airports as all flights were now cancelled, including its international routes from Switzerland and the Netherlands. The UK's Civil Aviation Authority said passengers should make their own alternative travel arrangements via other airlines, rail or coach operators, leaving customers with lengthy and potentially expensive trips to get home. CAA consumer director Paul Smith said: It is always sad to see an airline enter administration and we know that Flybe's ...

Urination case: AICCA seeks rollback of derostering of Air India crew

Cabin crew body, All India's Cabin Crew Association (AICCA), on Monday demanded that the airline should roll back derostering of the crew that operated the New York- Delhi flight where a male passenger allegedly urinated on a female co-passenger last November. Earlier this month, Air India issued show cause notices to the Pilot-in-Command and four crew members of the flight and derostered them pending investigation. For various violations related to the urination incident onboard the flight on November 26, 2022, aviation regulator DGCA has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Air India, Rs 3 lakh fine on the airline's director of inflight services and also suspended the pilot-in-command's licence for three months. Against this backdrop, the All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) has demanded that the crew concerned should be rostered for duty again. "The AICCA has perused the DGCA press note on the Al-102 (26/11/22) and noted with deep regret the unusually harsh punishmen

SpiceJet passengers wait long at Delhi; airline says delay from crew

Passengers of a Bengaluru-bound SpiceJet plane had to wait for a long time at the aerobridge at Delhi airport on Tuesday, with the airline saying the flight was delayed due to weather disruption that led to incoming crew exceeding their duty time limit. One of the passengers shared on social media a video of many co-passengers waiting at the aerobridge. In the video, some of them were heard asking for water. The incident happened with passengers of SpiceJet flight SG 8133 from Delhi-Bengaluru. A SpiceJet spokesperson said the flight was delayed on account of weather disruption in the network and the aircraft's previous rotation. "As a result of this, the incoming crew was not legal to operate the subsequent flight to Bengaluru and crew was arranged from another incoming flight which was legal as per duty time limitation," the spokesperson said in a statement. According to the statement, as passengers had completed the security check they were requested to wait at the ...

Boeing airlines orders hit 4-year high in 2022, led by 737 Max jets

Boeing said Tuesday it took more than 200 net orders for passenger airplanes in December and finished 2022 with its best year since 2018, which was before two deadly crashes involving its 737 Max jet and a pandemic that choked off demand for new planes. The biggest boost came from United Airlines, which placed large orders for both the 737 Max and the larger, twin-aisle 787, which is used mostly on international routes. Bank of China Aviation also placed a significant order for 40 Max jets, Boeing said. Boeing reported 774 orders for all of 2022, after subtracting cancellations. That was an increase from 479 the year before and a rebound from 2020, when the company lost 471 more orders than it gained. Boeing said it delivered 69 planes in December, including 53 Maxes. Of those, Southwest took 18, which was a one-month record for any airline customer, Boeing said. The company reported delivering 480 planes for the year. Deliveries are an important source of cash because buyers ...
