At a function in Bhopal on Sunday to release the BJP government's 'report card' of 20 years in Madhya Pradesh, Shah had said the BJP dispensation in these years successfully removed the BIMARU (laggard) category tag from the state, which he claimed was a legacy of the Congress regime. In a post on X, Sibal said, "Amit Shah on Madhya Pradesh: Foundation laid for a developed 'atma nirbhar' state. Shah releases MP govt's report card, says it removed BIMARU tag from state

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday released the Madhya Pradesh government's 'report card' from 2003-2023 and said the BJP government in these years successfully removed the BIMARU category (laggard) tag from the state, which, according to him, was a legacy of the Congress regime. Shah released the government's 'report card' of 20 years at a function in the Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, MP BJP president VD Sharma and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra. The assembly elections in MP are due this year-end. The BIMARU acronym has often been used to refer to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, to imply that these states lagged in terms of economic growth, health care, education, and other indices. "Madhya Pradesh came into existence in 1956 and since then, except for five-six years, Congress ruled the state till 2003, but the state remained BIMARU during their regime, Shah said. However, the BJP government ha

Congress criticises PM Modi, Amit Shah over 'undernourishment' in Gujarat

The Congress on Saturday cited a Niti Aayog report to hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging high levels of undernourishment in Gujarat. In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared a media report which said Gujarat still has a long way to go on the nutrition front as 38.09 per cent of the population in the state is undernourished. It cited the National Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report, released by Niti Aayog in July. "The nation is often reminded by G2(Modi & Shah) especially of what they call Gujarat model. But what the nation is not told has been revealed in a recent Niti Aayog report: Over 38% of population is under-nourished. Nearly half of rural Gujarat is deprived of nutrition. Ranks 4th worst in India in terms of stunted children. Ranks 2nd worst in India in wasted and underweight children." "More than a third of the rural population (in Gujarat) is deprived of housing," Ramesh said.

Amit Shah criticises Oppn, compares alliance to 'old wine in old bottle'

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday took a swipe at the opposition alliance, likening it to an "old wine in old bottle" and claimed it was a group of leaders involved in corruption worth Rs 12 lakh crore. Shah attacked the opposition Congress, saying during its rule, India's economy did not go beyond the 11th rank in the world, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi took it to the 5th position in one shot. He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for a regional centre of the National Security Guard (NSG) in Mansa town in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a group of 26 opposition parties have come together under the banner of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
