Tech veteran CP Gurnani's AI venture AIonOS on Monday signed a pact with Indonesian telecom major Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison to develop solutions on Chinese open-source AI research lab DeepSeek. The collaboration aims to leverage AI for advancing Indonesia's Food Security, Talent Development, and Tourism, and contribute towards achieving the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045, a company statement said. The partnership will work towards developing solutions with a focus on travel and hospitality use cases, among others, AIonOS co-founder and CEO Gurnani told reporters here. The solutions will be modelled on DeepSeek, he said, adding that it looks like a "promising piece of technology" and that the Indonesian government is very keen to leverage the effectiveness of DeepSeek. AI key for biz transformation, no longer an option: Publicis Sapient CEO

Artificial intelligence is no longer an option but a necessity that will transform every aspect of every business in the world, digital consultancy firm Publicis Sapient CEO Nigel Vaz has said. Speaking with PTI during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting that ended on Friday, Vaz also said he doesn't see much progress happening on any global regulation for AI and what was most likely that some standards will come from some countries and those would be adopted by others in some form or the other. Publicis Sapient, established in 1990 as Sapient in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is now part of Publicis Groupe of France. "I think this year's Davos is very prescient because almost every organisation and every country is looking to find out how they can harness data to enable this intelligent world to empower their citizens and empower their businesses. Almost every CEO here has a focus area on how we can advance their products in their target markets using AI, give the right message to

AI, quantum computing, green tech must drive India's growth: CEEW chief

Asserting that climate change is no more just an environmental issue but a broader economic issue, CEEW chief Arunabha Ghosh has said that India must use the opportunities and challenges posed by new disruptors as levers for sustainable growth going forward. "Whether it is artificial intelligence, quantum computing, synthetic biology and green or clean tech, these are the new disruptors and we must in a way ride this tiger," Ghosh told PTI in an interview here during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting that ended on Friday. Ghosh said the members of the WEF are now recognising climate risks and the broader environmental risks as one of the key business and economic risks. "Over the next ten years, five out ten risks identified are either related to climate change or biodiversity loss or extreme weather events. This demonstrates that climate change is not just an environmental agenda but a business and economy agenda," he said. What this means for the broader business agenda i

World Economic Forum: Leaders call for action on AI, regional reforms

Leaders from various countries called for action on artificial intelligence and reforms as they brainstormed here during the five-day World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, which ends on Friday. In a special address, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called for a reform of social media governance across the European Union to curb misinformation and cyber harassment. He urged for stronger enforcement of the Digital Services Act and expanded powers for the European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency. He emphasised that "the values of the European Union are not for sale" and called for increased funding for research into social media algorithms to ensure Europe's brightest minds address this critical challenge. United Nations Secretary-General Antnio Guterres issued a stark warning about two escalating global threats: the unchecked expansion of artificial intelligence and the climate crisis. India evaluates impact of US proposal on AI chip export restrictions

India is evaluating the impact of the US proposal to impose restrictions on AI chip exports, as the move could have implications on the development of emerging technologies here, official sources said on Thursday. The US administration has proposed a new framework that restricts the import of artificial intelligence chips due to national security concerns about the technology and economic interests of producers and other countries. The proposal has no restriction for 18 key allies of the US, which have been clubbed under Group 1, but there are restrictions on the quantity that can be exported to other countries under Group 2, including India. Sources, who did not wish to be named, said ministries, including commerce and industry and electronics and information technology, are looking into it. "We are evaluating the impact," they added. The semiconductor industry body IESA has stated that the proposed restrictions will challenge the country's plan for AI hardware, crucial for the l
