The BJP's top leadership will on Wednesday deliberate upon the candidates for Gujarat assembly polls, where the party is eyeing a win for the seventh time. The BJP's central election committee, also comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will meet here in the evening to finalise the candidates. Elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases -- December 1 and 5. The BJP is likely to finalise all 183 candidates during the meeting and may announce the list in the next few days, sources said. An MP-MLA court here on Tuesday acquitted former Amethi MLA and BJP leader Garima Singh in a nearly five-year-old case of violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Special judge Yogesh Yadav acquitted Singh in the absence of adequate evidence, a prosecution lawyer said. The case was registered against Garima Singh in 2017 at the Amethi Kotwali police station. Inspector Ramakant Prasad, the then in-charge of Amethi Kotwali, had filed the case against the former MLA for putting up two BJP flags on a vehicle contrary to the norms in the 2017 assembly election campaign. Rajesh Singh, advocate of Garima Singh, said the prosecution did not produce any evidence in court, which acquitted her after the allegations were not proved. Garima Singh had surrendered in the court in October 2021 in connection with the case and was released on bail.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday met BJP leader L K Advani and greeted him on his 95th birthday. The BJP on Tuesday staged a protest outside the AAP office here and demanded a lie detector test for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after suspected conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar claimed that he was forced to bribe the party. In a series of letters, Chandrashekhar has alleged that he paid money to Delhi minister Satyender Jain and other AAP leaders for protection in jail and a Rajya Sabha ticket from the party. The BJP on Friday accused the Delhi government of registering "bogus" construction workers and siphoning off money meant for them for AAP's party-related work. In a joint conference with party MP Manoj Tiwari, BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's intent and integrity was polluted. Patra termed it the biggest corruption case in India as far as construction workers were concerned. He said three NGOs working for construction workers alleged massive corruption in their registration through proxies. The BJP leader accused the Delhi govt of disbursing Rs 3,000 crore among "fake" construction workers. Elaborating on the figures, Patra said between 2006 and 2021, over 13 lakh construction workers were registered under the Delhi government's labour department. Of these, over 9 lakh were registered between 2018 to 2021. Patra said investigations had revealed 2 lakh fake registrations in Delhi. He alleged that 65,000 workers had the same mobile .
