Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh has written to the Union and the state governments seeking enactment of specific legislation to deal with the cases of desecration of religious texts as the current law legal regime was "insufficient". The legislator has suggested that a specific section can be added through an amendment to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) making sacrilege of religious texts, with an intention to hurt the religious sentiments of the people, punishable with rigorous imprisonment of up to a maximum of five years along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Ahead of assembly polls due next year, the Arunachal Pradesh unit of BJP underwent a reshuffle of its state office bearers. The reshuffle, executed by state BJP president Biyuram Wahge, was officially ratified by the BJP central office in New Delhi, a party statement said here on Friday. Tadar Niglar has been designated as the state general secretary, while Romin Babom and Dotum Sora have been entrusted with the roles of state secretaries. Kohman Lungphii Ngemu will be the new BJP Mahila Morcha state president, while Ritemso Manyu will be the state president of Yuva Morcha and Gumsen Lollen the state president of Kisan Morcha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded the feat of the number of Jan Dhan accounts crossing the 50-crore mark as a significant milestone. It is heartening to see that more than half of these accounts belong to women, Modi posted on X. The Union Finance Ministry said on Friday that the total number of Jan Dhan accounts in the country has crossed the 50-crore mark, with 56 per cent of them belonging to women. About 67 per cent of these accounts have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas, the ministry said in a statement. Terming it a significant milestone, Modi said, "It is heartening to see that more than half of these accounts belong to our Nari Shakti. With 67% of accounts opened in rural and semi-urban areas, we are also ensuring that the benefits of financial inclusion reach every corner of our nation."
