INDIA will rout BJP; Cong to repeat Karnataka win in other states: RaGa

Asserting that the INDIA alliance will defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in national elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said his party will replicate its win in Karnataka in poll-bound Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Addressing party workers at the Maharashtra Congress office at Tilak Bhavan in Mumbai, Gandhi claimed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are scared of the country's oldest political outfit. People in the media said the Congress party does not have strength, but who defeated the BJP in Karnataka? Gandhi said, referring to his party's resounding victory in the assembly polls in the southern state held in May this year. Whatever happened in Karnataka will happen in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh (where assembly polls are due in next few months). The INDIA alliance is going to defeat the BJP in national elections and the Congress party will win the polls, he said. The

Strength of opposition alliance making govt 'nervous': Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said the strength of the opposition alliance is making the government "nervous" and INDIA bloc partners should be prepared for vendetta politics as there will be more "misuse" of agencies against them. Addressing the opposition meeting here, he launched a frontal attack on the government saying the communal poison that the BJP and RSS have allegedly spread over the last nine years is now seen in hate crimes against innocent train passengers and against school children. His apparent reference was to the incidents of a railway police constable fatally shooting people on board a train and a teacher at a Muzaffarnagar school asking students to slap their Muslim classmate for not completing his homework. In his opening remarks, Kharge said the success of both the meetings in Patna and Bengaluru can be measured by the fact that the prime minister in his subsequent speeches has not just attacked INDIA but has also "compared the name of our .

Former Prez Kovind-led committee to explore 'one-nation, one-election'

The government has constituted a committee headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind to explore the possibility of "one nation, one election", sources said on Friday. The move comes a day after the government called a special session of Parliament between September 18 and 22, the agenda for which is under wraps. Over the years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pushed strongly for the idea of simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly polls, and the decision to task Kovind to look into it underscores the government's seriousness as a host of elections approach. Assembly polls are due in five states in November-December and they will be followed by the Lok Sabha elections in May-June next year. However, the recent moves by the government have thrown open the possibility of advancing the general elections and some state polls, which are scheduled after and with the Lok Sabha contest.

Maharashtra BJP unit poses questions to Rahul Gandhi over Adani group

The Maharashtra unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday calling him childish over the latter's tirade against industrialist Gautam Adani and his conglomerate, and linking them to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP said Gandhi should explain why the Congress-led government in office before 2014 at the Centre had given land parcels to the Adani group. In a long post on X (formerly Twitter), the state BJP said, Rahul Gandhi who has a childish brain should tell why the Congress government before 2014 had given key land parcels to the Adani group. The earlier Congress government had given several awards to the Adani group, it should be communicated to the people. Why did (NCP founder) Sharad Pawar oppose the Congress demand for JPC (probe in Adani group affairs) which was based on Hindenberg report? Why did Congress government in Maharashtra in 2013 awarded 660 MW Tiroda power plant to the Adani group? the party asked. Earlier in

BJP boycotts MCD House, Cong councillor objects it being on Raksha Bandhan

Members of the opposition BJP boycotted the meeting of the AAP-led municipal House on Thursday while a Congress woman councillor objected to the session being called on the last day of the month and on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi during the House said "we celebrate our festivals, but we also know our duties". She took a jibe at the BJP and said "people cannot run away from their responsibilities in the name of a festival". She also asserted that the opposition should not try to give it a political colour. An AAP member said the BJP councillors not attending the meeting of the House "was a matter of shame" as he accused them of shying away from their duties in the name of Raksha Bandhan. The Delhi BJP on August 29 had announced that if the House was held on the day of Raksha Bandhan, its members will not attend it and alleged that it amounted to "harassment" of municipal employees. The festival this year has fallen on both August 30 and 31. "If the A

Civic House nod to hike councillor allowance Rs 25K/ meeting; BJP condemns

The AAP-led municipal House on Thursday passed a slew of proposals including raising the size of a councillor's allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 25,000 per meeting, a move that drew criticism from the opposition BJP whose members boycotted the session. The House also cleared a proposal to constitute a new managing committee for the over 160-year-old Hardayal Municipal Public Library, and begin door-step delivery of 23 services that will include issuing of birth and death certificates and renewal of factory licence. While opposition BJP members did not attend the meet, some of the Congress councillors raised civic issues on sanitation, parking, and other problems faced by residents in their wards, at time leading to heated exchanges among them and a few AAP councillors. The Delhi BJP had on August 29 announced if the House was held on the day of Raksha Bandhan then its members will not attend it, saying it would tantamount to "harassment" of municipal employees. India's rise eyesore for many: BJP on Oppn attack on govt over Adani issue

India's rise as a strong nation has become an eyesore for many people, the BJP said on Thursday, amid opposition parties such as the Congress targeting the Modi government over fresh allegations against the Adani Group. The Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) trained its guns on billionaire Gautam Adani's group, alleging that hundreds of millions of dollars were invested in publicly traded group stocks through Mauritius-based 'opaque' investment funds managed by partners of promoter family. Latching on to the claims, the Congress targeted the government and said "corruption" in shell companies linked to the conglomerate is getting stronger and only a joint parliamentary committee probe can uncover the truth. Responding to questions on the issue, BJP national spokesperson Sayed Jafar Islam told a press conference that "but this much I would definitely say that there are some forces like George SorosIndia, which used to be a soft nation, is today emerging as a ...
