Atishi accuses Centre of settling Rohingyas in Delhi; Puri denies claim

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, accusing the BJP-led Centre of settling "a large number of illegal Rohingyas" in different parts of the city. With the AAP targeting Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri over his tweets and claiming that settling these refugees here was a "conscious decision" of the BJP-led NDA government, the minister accused AAP of indulging in "politics of diversion, false narratives and half-truths". In the run-up to the Delhi Assembly polls due in February 2025, the ruling AAP and BJP have been hitting out at one another over the issue of illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi people staying in the national capital. The BJP has already complained to the Election Commission about illegal Rohingyas and Bangladeshis registered as voters in Delhi "at the behest of AAP". Citing two tweets by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in 2022, Atishi alleged the Union government has settled a large number of illegal Rohingya refugees in ...

BJP completes 1st year in office in Rajasthan, list several achievements

The BJP government in Rajasthan, led by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, completed one year in office on Sunday with a number of accomplishments, including the creation of more than 1.24 lakh jobs, a crackdown on the paper-leak mafia and signing an MoU regarding the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project. The government organised an investment summit in its first year and signed memoranda of understanding worth Rs 34 lakh crore, a step towards realising its vision of increasing the economy size of the desert state to USD 350 billion, for which the ruling regime has effected a 65-per cent increase in capital expenditure in this year's budget. Winning five of the seven seats in the recently-held Assembly bypolls is also being credited to the efficiency of Sharma's leadership. However, the palpable discord of Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena, indecisiveness on issues, such as the formation of new districts by the former Congress government, the controversial sub-inspector recruitment of

BJP not discussing issues during legislature session: D K Shivakumar

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday hit out at the opposition BJP, accusing it of indulging in "politics" and not showing any interest in discussing issues concerning the state and its people, during the ongoing winter session of legislature in Belagavi. He claimed that the saffron party in the state was a divided house, and hence they were not interested on discussing real issues. "BJP is not interested in any discussion, what to do?....they are not interested in anything else other than doing politics. There is no unity among them, so they are doing such things," Shivakumar told reporters here in response to a question about issues relating to north Karnataka not being discussed in the legislature session so far. The session that began on December 9 will continue during the coming week too. Belagavi, bordering Maharashtra, has been hosting legislature sessions once a year since 2006. PM Modi exposed Cong's violating of Constitution for years: BJP leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday "exposed" the Congress by presenting "facts" on how the party tore apart the Constitution and hurt its soul just for the sake of power, BJP MPs, including Union ministers, said after his speech in the Lok Sabha. Responding to a two-day debate in the Lower House on the 'Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India', Modi launched a searing attack on the Nehru-Gandhi family and alleged that its generations assaulted the Constitution, leaving its spirit in a "bloodied state." Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a post on X said Modi in his address mainly spoke on the sanctity and importance of the Constitution as well as its basic elements. The PM also presented before the people of the country "facts" how the Congress, which claims to be the protector of the Constitution, tore apart the Constitution for the sake of power and hurt its soul, he added. "The Constitution of India is the religion of our government, a holy book for us

Congress apologised for Emergency but BJP silent on its own actions: NC MP

Opposition MPs on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attacking the Constitution, with National Conference (NC) MP Mian Altaf Ahmad saying while the Congress apologised for imposing Emergency, the ruling party has been silent on its own actions. Participating in a debate on 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution, Ahmad slammed the BJP for bifurcating the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. "Congress has apologised for the Emergency but you are silent on various things you have done... Congress toppled elected governments, but you divided our state into two Union Territories, which was unnecessary," he said. Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation MP Raja Ram Singh named activists like Stan Swamy, who was jailed in the Bhima Koregaon case and died in the prison, Umar Khalid, Gulfisha and Meeran Haider, who have been arrested on the allegations of links with the 2020 Delhi riots. 'Attackers' of Constitution posing as it's 'champion': Tejasvi Surya in LS

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya slammed the Congress in the Lok Sabha on Saturday, saying the "attackers" of the Constitution are posing as "champions" of the Constitution in a "hypocritical drama" that is going on for decades in the country. Participating in a two-day debate in the Lower House on the "Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India", the Bangalore South MP alleged that parties like the Congress consider India not as a civilisational state or a nation but "a mere hotchpotch union of states". "For a very long time, a big hypocritical drama has been conducted in this country, where those who are the attackers of the Constitution have posed themselves as champions of the Constitution. This hypocrisy must be exposed. For a very long time, this hypocrisy has continued. "The BJP is the protector of the Constitution and the protector of territorial integrity. Savarkar preferred Manusmriti to Constitution: Rahul attacks BJP in LS

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on saturday cited V D Savarkar's remarks that there was nothing Indian about the Constitution and took a jibe at the BJP, saying that by talking of protecting the Constitution, the ruling party is "ridiculing" Savarkar. Participating in a debate on 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution, the Congress leader said Savarkar, who is seen as an ideologue of the BJP and RSS, had said there is nothing Indian about the Constitution, and that he preferred Hindu religious text 'Manusmriti' to it. "The Constitution is a document of modern India but it could never have been written without ancient India and her ideas," Rahul Gandhi said. Savarkar had said there is nothing Indian about the Constitution and called Manusmriti a scripture "most worshipable" for Hindus after the Vedas, according to Gandhi. "Nice that you say you are defending the Constitution, but I want to ask, do you stand by your leader's words? Because when you speak abou

A purported suicide note recovered after the deaths of a businessman and his wife who hanged themselves in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district has led to a slugfest between the Congress and the ruling BJP. In the purported suicide note that surfaced on social media, businessman Manoj Parmar urged Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders not to leave his children alone and accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and BJP leaders of harassment. The Congress has claimed that Parmar and his wife were party supporters, and the ED harassed them over their political leanings. The couple's children had gifted their piggybank to Gandhi during his "Bharat Jodo (Nyaya) Yatra". Sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Akash Amalkar said the suicide note received by the police was in the form of an application. He said the family members of the deceased couple were still in mourning, so the police have not recorded their statements. Talking to PTI, Amalkar said he cannot reveal more about the suici
