Girls outhone boys and clinched the top three spots in the Punjab Board Class 10 exams, the results of which were declared on Friday. The Class 12 Board exams, declared by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on Wednesday, also saw a similar trend with girls outperforming boys and bagging the top three positions. According to an official statement, with a perfect score of 100 per cent, Gagandeep Kaur of Sant Mohan Das Senior Secondary School in Kot Sukhiya of Faridkot district emerged as the topper in the Class 10 exams. The second rank was secured by her classmate Navjot who scored 648 out of 650 marks. Harmandeep Kaur of Government High School Mandali district Mansa clinched the third position with 646 marks. Of the 2,90,796 students who appeared for the Class 10 board exam, 2,81,905 students cleared it. Compartment exam to be called supplementary exam now as per NEP: CBSE

The CBSE has decided to change the nomenclature of the 'compartment' exam to 'supplementary' exam based on recommendations made in the NEP-2020, a senior official said on Friday. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also decided to offer more opportunities to students to improve their performance in board exams. "As per recommendations made by the National Education Policy (NEP), the CBSE has changed the nomenclature of the compartment exam to supplementary exam. Students will be provided more opportunities to improve their performance in supplementary examinations," CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said. Class 10, 12 boards results may take marks of previous class into account

Board exams in two terms might be back for class 12 and the final result for classes 10 and 12 will take into account the marks of previous class, according to the draft National Curriculum Framework (NCF). The NCF, which is being drafted according to the new National Education Policy (NEP), also proposes doing away with the current practice of dividing streams into science, arts or humanities and commerce for classes 11 and 12. The NCF was last revised in 2005. However, this is not the first attempt at reforming board exams. The Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) was introduced for class 10 in 2009 but was revoked in 2017 and the board reverted to the old model of year-end exams. The board exams for classes 10 and 12 were also split into two terms during the pandemic as a one-time measure but the old format of year-end examination was resumed for the crucial exams this year.
