One killed, 34 injured as bus overturns in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district

A passenger was killed and at least 34 others injured when a private bus carrying them overturned in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district on Friday, the police said. The incident took place around 6 am when the driver of the bus, which was heading to Durg from Prayagraj, lost control of the vehicle at Kenda Banjari ghat under Belgahna police chowki, a local police official said. The bus overturned resulting in the death of one passenger on the spot, the official said. At least 34 others sustained injuries, he said. Soon after being alerted, a police team reached the spot and launched a rescue exercise, he said. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, he said, adding that further details are awaited.

Shinde orders probe into Samruddhi Expressway accident, announces ex-gratia

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday ordered a probe into a road accident on the Samruddhi Expressway which claimed 12 lives. The kin of each of the deceased will get a compensation of Rs five lakh from the state government, Shinde said. A speeding mini-bus hit a container truck in Vaijapur area on the Samruddhi Expressway in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district in the early hours of Sunday, killing at least 12 people and injuring 23 others, as per police. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a post on X said an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and the injured persons would be given Rs 50,000. 12 killed, 23 injured as mini-bus hits container on Samruddhi Expressway

At least 12 people were killed and 23 others injured when a speeding mini-bus hit a container in the early hours of Sunday on Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, formerly known as Aurangabad, police said. There were 35 passengers travelling by the private bus, an official said. The accident took place at around 12.30 am in Vaijapur area of the expressway in the district, located nearly 350 km from Mumbai, he said. The bus driver lost control over the wheels. As a result, the bus hit the container from the rear side, the official said. Twelve passengers were killed. The deceased include five men, six women and a minor girl, he said. The official said 23 others received injuries and they were admitted to a government hospital.

At least 21 killed in bus crash in Italian city of Venice, 15 survive

A bus crashed near the Italian city of Venice after falling from an elevated street, killing at least 21 people and injuring others, authorities said. Venice prefect Michele Di Bari said that there were 15 survivors from the crash, which happened in Mestre, a suburb of Venice, on Tuesday. Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro wrote on X that the scene of the crash was apocalyptic and that he had already declared the city's mourning" for the numerous victims who were on the bus. According to local media, the bus fell a few metres before crashing close to Mestre's railway tracks, where it caught fire. Emergency crews were on the scene. Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed her deepest sorrow after the crash.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed anguish over the Nilgiris bus accident in Tamil Nadu on September 30 that has left 9 persons dead. The PM also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the victims. "Pained by the loss of lives due to a bus accident near Coonoor in Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. On Saturday, a Tenkasi-bound tourist bus fell into a gorge and toppled after the driver lost control of the vehicle, killing 8 people. The toll went up to nine with the death of one more woman today. The victims had arrived in the hilly district for a pleasure trip and were returning home when the mishap occurred.

39 injured as pvt bus headed for PM's Bhopal rally hits truck in Khargone

As many as 39 persons were injured, one of them seriously, when the private bus carrying them to the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Bhopal rammed into a stationary truck in Khargone district, police said on Monday. The incident occurred under the Kasrawad police station limits on Sunday night, an officer said. 1 killed, many hurt as bus carrying children crashes on New York highway

A charter bus carrying schoolchildren crashed on a New York highway and went down an embankment Thursday, killing one person and hurting multiple other people, police said. The wreck happened on Interstate 84 in the town of Wawayanda, about 45 miles northwest of New York City, state police said. The bus was carrying students from Long Island to a band camp in Pennsylvania, according to a message sent to several local news outlets by the Farmingdale Union Free School District. Video taken from news helicopters showed the bus lying on its side in trees and shrubs yards off the road in the median between the westbound and eastbound sides of the highway. Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus told WNBC-TV that there were around 45 people on the bus, mostly children. He said at least five people were badly hurt. The crash happened around 1:20 pm. News footage showed emergency vehicles on the highway, which was closed in both directions.

1 dead, 28 injured after ST bus hits container truck on Mumbai-Goa highway

A man died and 28 persons were injured after a state transport (ST) bus collided with a container truck on Mumbai-Goa highway in the early hours of Sunday, a police official said. The incident took place near Mangaon in Talegaon village when the bus and container truck were moving side by side, the Raigad police official said. "The bus dashed against the truck. Passenger Vinod Tarale (38), a resident of Dombivali, died, while his wife Vaishnavi and 15-year-old son Atharva are seriously injured. In all 28 passengers, including nine women, three girls and five boys, were injured," he said. MSRTC authorities arranged a bus to ferry the passengers to their destinations after the incident, he added.

Bodies of passengers killed in Raj bus accident to be shifted in ambulances

The local administration in Rajasthan is arranging ambulances to carry the bodies of passengers killed in the Bharatpur bus accident on Wednesday to their native places in Gujarat, while 33 others will be shifted in a bus, an official said. 24 pilgrims from West Bengal wounded in bus accident near Lucknow

Two dozen people were injured when a private tourist bus carrying over 60 pilgrims from Medinipur, West Bengal fell into a roadside ditch on the Bareilly-Lucknow national highway at Jang Bahadur Ganj (JB Ganj) bypass near Allipur village on Saturday morning, police said. Bus falls few feet after part of Mandi-Shimla highway caves in, 4 injured

Four passengers of a Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation bus were injured after it fell a few feet as a portion of the Mandi-Shimla highway caved in on Saturday, officials said. The bus with 12 passengers on board was on its way to Shimla from Mandi when a part of the road caved in near Kango in Mandi district in the early hours of Saturday, they said. The bus fell a few feet, landing on its tyres and was not buried in the debris, they added. Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) Managing Director Rohan Chand Thakur said the four injured passengers have been admitted to a hospital. According to State Emergency Operation Centre data, 107 people have died in road accidents in Himachal Pradesh during the monsoon season since June 24. The Shimla-Kalka and the Manali-Chandigarh national highways were blocked near Koti and Pandoh, respectively, following landslides triggered by intermittent rain. A total 395 roads are blocked in the state, officials said.

5 killed, 20 injured as 2 buses collide in Maharashtra's Buldhana district

Five persons, including two women, were killed and 20 others injured after two private buses collided in the early hours of Saturday in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, a police official said. The accident occurred around 2.30 am on a flyover in Malkapur town in the district, he said. According to the official, one of the buses involved in the accident was on its way to Hingoli after Amarnath Yatra, while the other private bus was going towards Nashik. The bus going towards Nashik tried to overtake a truck and ended up coming in front of the second bus, resulting in a collision, he said. School bus overturns in Jaisalmer, 30 children injured, staffer dead

A person died and around 30 schoolchildren were injured when their bus overturned in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district on Wednesday, police said. The bus was ferrying the students to their school when the accident occurred near Pokhran town, they said. "The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned," Assistant Sub Inspector of Sankra police station (Jaisalmer) Kailash Chand said. He said many of the injured students were rushed to a hospital in Jaipur while some were admitted to a local medical facility. Chand further said that the parents of some other children took them to private hospitals. The ASI said the students were in the age group of 10-15 years. 22 injured as private bus rams into trailer truck on Samruddhi Expressway

At least 22 passengers were injured, including four seriously, after the private luxury bus they were travelling in hit a trailer truck on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district in the early hours of Wednesday, the police said. The incident on the Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed carriageway took place near Phulambri in the district around 2.30 am, an official said. The private bus was going from Nagpur to Pune, while the trailer truck carrying steel was on its way from Jalna to Surat, he said. Maha transport commissioner requests ARAI to review sleeper coach design

The Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Department has requested the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to conduct a thorough review of the design and safety measures implemented in sleeper coach buses. The move came after the last week's horrific tragedy on the Samruddhi Expressway where a sleeper coach bus caught fire causing the death of 25 passengers. "We have requested the ARAI to re-inspect the design of sleeper buses," said Vivek Bhimanwar, transport commissioner of Maharashtra. ARAI, which is a premier vehicle testing and certification agency notified by the Government of India, had prepared the Automotive Industry Standards for sleeper coach buses.
