Passenger vehicle sales dip 17 pc in April

Domestic passenger vehicle (PV) sales declined 17.07 per cent to 2,47,541 units in April from 2,98,504 units in the year-ago month. Domestic car sales declined 19.93 per cent to 1,60,279 units compared to 2,00,183 in April 2018, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Motorcycle sales last month declined 11.81 per cent to 10,84,811 units as against 12,30,046 units a year earlier. Total two-wheeler sales in April declined 16.36 per cent to 16,38,388 units compared to 19,58,761 units in the year-ago month. Sales of commercial vehicles were down 5.98 per cent to 68,680 units in April, SIAM said. Vehicle sales across categories registered a decline of 15.93 per cent to 20,01,096 units from 23,80,294 units in April 2018, it added.

Stocks markets volatile after opening in red, Nifty hovers below 11,300

Equity benchmark indices turned volatile after opening in the red on Monday, tracking a sharp fall in Asian peers amid growing concerns over the brewing trade war between the United States and China.Except for IT and FMCG, all sectoral indices were in the negative zone at the National Stock Exchange.At 10:15 am, the BSE S & P Sensex was up 92 points at 37,555 while the Nifty 50 moved 10 points higher to 11,288.Eicher Motors dropped over 4 per cent at Rs 19,503 while Indiabulls Housing Finance, Larsen & Toubro and Zee Entertainment were down over 2 per cent. De-duplication of Indian consumer data to complete by year-end: Mastercard

Global payments giant Mastercard has started to delete transactions data of Indian consumers from US-based servers, and saving the same in India, from this month and expects to complete the de-duplication exercise by this year-end, a top official said. The moves comes in the backdrop of the regulator RBI asking such payment technology firms to comply with data localisation norms which requires them to store transactions data of Indian customers within the boundaries of India. Mastercard, however, has already started saving data at servers in India from October last year which is duplicate data of that saved in the US. "From October 2018, the data has been residing in India, that is step one. The point of challenge is data to be only in India because it is not about putting just few servers here," Ari Sarker, co-president, Asia Pacific, Mastercard told PTI in an interview here. Rupee slips 26 paise to 70.18 vs USD in early trade

The rupee depreciated by 26 paise to 70.18 against the US dollar in early trade Monday amid US-China trade related concerns and rising crude oil prices. Forex traders said the strengthening of the greenback vis-a-vis other currencies overseas, foreign fund outflows and cautious opening in domestic equities added pressure to the domestic unit. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened on a weak note at 70.16 then fell further to 70.18 against the US dollar, showing a decline of 26 paise over its previous closing. The local unit, however, pared some losses and was quoted at 70.16 against the American currency at 0937 hrs. The Indian rupee Friday had closed at 69.92 against the US dollar. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) pulled out Rs 1,245.14 crore on a net basis Friday, provisional data showed. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.27 per cent to USD 70.81 per barrel. Meanwhile, domestic bourses opened on a cautious note Monday. The BSE gauge Sensex was .
