Refined soya oil prices went up by 0.02 per cent to Rs 760.4 per 10 kg in futures trade Friday as participants built up fresh positions amid pick up in domestic demand at the spot market and restricted supplies from producing regions. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, refined soya oil for delivery in March rose by 15 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, to Rs 760.4 per 10 kg with an open interest of 35,530 lots. Similarly, the oil for delivery in April traded higher by 3 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, at Rs 751.45 per 10 kg in 10,390 lots. Analysts said fresh positions created by traders following pick up in demand in the physical market against restricted supplies from growing regions led to an upward trend in refined soya oil prices in futures trade.

Gold regained its glitter with prices surging by Rs 310 to Rs 34,310 per 10 gram at the bullion market here Friday on increased buying by jewellers coupled with a firming trend overseas, according to the All India Sarafa Association. Silver also rose Rs 170 to Rs 40,820 per kg, supported by increased offtake by industrial units. Bullion traders said sentiment in the domestic market turned upbeat on the back of increased buying by jewellers and retailers and a firming trend in global markets. Breathing life into more than a three-decade old committee report, the Karnataka government has decided to amend rules to give primacy to Kannadigas in jobs under Group C and D category in the private sector. The state cabinet decided to amend the Karnataka Industrial Employment (Standing Orders), Rules, 1961, to implement the Sarojini Mahishi report, a statement from Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said. The Mahishi Committee, headed by former Union minister Sarojini Mahishi, was constituted in 1984 to recommend job opportunities for Kannadigas in Karnataka and it submitted the report two years later. On similar lines, coriander for May was trading lower by Rs 24, or 0.27 per cent, at Rs 6,374. The open interest of the contract stood at 22,240 lots. Analysts attributed the fall in coriander futures to subdued demand in the physical market against adequate stocks position on increased supplies from producing regions.
