Coal ministry launches PIM module of single window clearance system

The government on Tuesday launched the Project Information and Management (PIM) module of the Single Window Clearance System, a platform to seek various clearances to operationalise coal mines. The development assumes significance in the wake of the government making efforts to secure domestic fuel supplies amid fear of shortage during monsoon. "The Ministry of Coal has launched Project Information & Management Module of Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) here today," according to an official statement. The PIM module of SWCS will facilitate project proponents as well as ministry and state officials in monitoring and expeditious implementation of coal mines. While launching the new IT-enabled facility, Coal Secretary Anil Kumar Jain said it is an innovative endeavour of the government to create a platform to obtain various clearances for operationalisation of coal mines. Ministry of Coal puts 122 mines under commercial auction process

The Ministry of Coal on Wednesday said it has put on auction 122 coal and lignite mines under the commercial auction process. Addressing the fifth tranche of auction launch, Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said 42 coal mines have already been auctioned successfully so far. In a statement, the ministry said it "has placed on offer 122 coal/lignite mines today under commercial auction of coal mines, including 18 new coal mines." Sharing the details of mines under different tranches for auction, it said there are 109 coal mines under 15th Tranche of Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 and 5th Tranche of Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957. Of the 109 mines on offer, 59 are fully explored mines and 50 are partially explored mines. Jharkhand CM warns of shutting coal mines over non-payment of dues by PSUs

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has warned the coal companies of putting barricades around coal mines if due payment of worth Rs 1.36 lakh crore is not cleared to the state by Central PSUs."We have demanded payment of Rs 1.36 lakh crore (dues) to the state from the coal companies, and we will take it, this is State's right otherwise we will put barricades around coal mineral resources," the Chief Minister said in his speech in the Legislative Assembly on Friday.Soren had raised the issue of non-payment of dues by coal companies to the Centre in a letter to Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi dated March 2, 2022."Inspite of repeated consultations held with @CoalMinistry & @NITIAayogregarding non payment of long standing legitimate dues of Rs 1.36 lakh crores related to mining done by Central PSUs, Govt of India has paid no heed so far. China cracks down on illegal quarries following coal mine accident

China has launched a nationwide campaign to crackdown on illegal mining, days after 22 workers were trapped in an unauthorised coal quarry following heavy flooding. Twenty-two people were trapped on Wednesday after a coal mine was flooded in the city of Xiaoyi, north China's Shanxi province, as a result of illegal mining, according to state-run Xinhua news agency. The rescue operations are still underway. The local public security department has detained six suspects and is hunting others, state-run CGTN TV reported. Authorities have launched a nationwide campaign against illegal mining, Xinhua reported late on Thursday night. The high demand for coal has shored up prices, prompting the resurgence of illegal coal mining, according to the Office of the Work Safety Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Emergency Management.
