Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday said the party will retain power in Rajasthan after the assembly elections due to pro-people schemes of the Ashok Gehlot-led government. Gogoi, who is the chairman of the Congress' screening committee for Rajasthan, arrived here for a meeting with senior leaders of the party. "The atmosphere for the party is good in Rajasthan. The state government is doing good work in the state and the government will repeat," he told reporters. Screening committee members Abhishek Dutt and Ganesh Godiyal accompanied Gogoi. Karnataka govt sets panel to probe Covid irregularities during BJP rule

The Karnataka government has set up an inquiry commission headed by a retired High Court judge to probe into the procurement of medicines, equipment and the alleged irregularities in oxygen supply during the COVID-19 pandemic when the BJP was in power. Issuing an order to this effect on Friday, the government said it expected the commission led by Justice John Michael D'Cunha to submit the report in three months. The government order said it has taken a serious note of serious charges made by the Public Accounts Committee in its report in July-August regarding the procurement of medicines, equipment and oxygen mismanagement that led the deaths of people. The order further said the departments concerned will have to provide the documents required for the investigation and all necessary facilities including staff, space, stationery, vehicle and equipment needed to operate an office. Gujarat govt paid Rs 3,900 cr of excess payment to Adani Power: Gohil

Gujarat Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state of making an excess payment of Rs 3,900 crore to Adani Power Mundra Limited (APMuL) over five years under two power purchase agreements (PPA), an allegation the government denied. Gujarat government spokesperson and cabinet minister Rushikesh Patel said the allegations were "misleading", stating that the payment was only interim and not final. The state-run Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) paid Adani Power Rs 13,802 crore between October 2018 and March 2023 even when the latter did not submit any invoice or supporting documents of coal procurement (for its power plants), Gohil claimed at a press conference here. Baghel writes to PM, seeks probe into toilet construction during BJP rule

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking investigation into the toilet construction in the state during the previous BJP government. Despite Chhattisgarh being declared as an Open Defecation-Free (ODF) state in 2018, around 15 lakh families are yet to have access to advanced toilet facilities, he claimed. Baghel also demanded an incentive of Rs 30,000 for toilet construction for these families instead of Rs 12,000. In the letter, the CM highlighted the findings of the National Family Health Survey-6 (2019-21) conducted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which showed that 88.2 percent of urban families and 73.5 percent of rural families in Chhattisgarh have access to advanced toilet facilities.
