The Indian cricketers, contracted to play the Indian Premier League (IPL), left for the UAE in chartered and commercial flights after returning negative RT-PCR tests for the second time in two days. The travel arrangements were made by players' respective franchises. The players began their early departures for the remainder of the IPL, starting September 19, after India's fifth Test against England was postponed indefinitely following COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. The players, led by Virat Kohli, refused to take the field despite testing negative for the virus as they had apprehensions that playing members could contract the virus after assistant physio Yogesh Parmar tested positive just ahead of the final game. "The good news is that all the players and support staff members have now tested negative for the RT-PCR for the second time. Guj records 21 Covid-19 cases, no deaths; over 0.55 mn get vaccine shots

Gujarat reported 21 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking its infection tally to 8,25,584, a health department official said on Friday evening. The state did not record any death on account of the pandemic during this period. The death toll thus remained unchanged at 10,082. Discharge of 13 persons took the recovery count to 8,15,344, leaving the state with 158 active cases of which five patients are on ventilator support. An official release said 5.18 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state till now, including over 5.05 lakh on Friday. In neighbouring Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, the COVID-19 infection tally rose by one to reach 10,642, while the recovery count remained unchanged at 10,631, leaving the Union Territory, which has seen four deaths so far, with seven active cases. Karnataka coronavirus update: 967 Covid-19 cases, 10 deaths

Karnataka on Friday clocked 967 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the caseload to 29,60,131, while 10 deaths pushed the toll to 37,472. The day also saw 921 people being discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,05,604. Active cases stood at 17,028, a health department bulletin said. Bengaluru Urban accounted for the maximum number of 310 cases and two fatalities, it said. Dakshina Kannada district bordering Kerala remained a major COVID-19 hotspot with 141 fresh infections and two fatalities. Other districts too reported fresh cases, including Udupi 96, Kodagu 74, Hassan 61, Mysuru 55, Tumakuru 41 and Chikkamagaluru 37. Bidar, Chikkaballapura, Gadag, Haveri, Ramanagara and Yadgir reported zero infections and zero deaths. Twenty-four districts reported zero fatalities, the bulletin said.
