Marizanne Kapp struck a scintillating 45-ball 81 as South Africa overwhelmed India by six wickets in their ICC Women's T20 World Cup clash here on Sunday. Batting first, India posted 158 for seven and South Africa rode on Kapp's brilliant unbeaten knock and Tazmin Brits' 36-ball 40 to complete the chase of 159 in 19.1 overs. Shree Charani (3/24) picked up three wickets for India. Earlier, India were off to a flying start and scored 59 runs in the powerplay due to Shafali Verma (3 off 15 balls) and Smriti Mandhana's (17 off 12 balls) aggressive approach. However, South Africa's bowlers fought back well by applying the brakes on India's scoring in the middle overs while picking up important wickets, including that of India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who made her 200th T20I appearance, a feat no other cricketer -- male and female -- has achieved in the history of the game. Harmanpreet made 24 in her landmark game while Deepti Sharma chipped in with an useful 29 in 21 balls. Shabnim I

The 15-year-old blazed 10 fours and eight sixes in a record 11-ball List A fifty, powering India A to a daunting 377/9 after Sri Lanka A opted to bowl. With a mountain of runs to chase, Sri Lanka A never really got going and were bowled out for 311 in 47.1 overs, losing wickets at regular intervals. There was little resistance in the chase apart from Sadeera Samarawickrama (52; 44 balls) and Wanuja Sahhan who top-scored with a 69-ball 62. For India A, new-ball bowler Yash Thakur led the attack with 3/45 in 7 overs, while Vipraj Nigam wrapped the tail with 3/60 in 9.1 overs. Skipper Tilak Varma capped a fine all-round outing with a tidy 1/11 from two overs. Premier batter Virat Kohli was on Sunday named in India's squad for the three-match ODI series against England next month, subject to fitness clearance, as the BCCI announced team for the upcoming white-ball assignment. The selection committee picked a 15-member squad for the ODI series, to be led by Shubman Gill, with Rohit Sharma also included. Kohli's inclusion remains dependent on a fitness clearance, according to a note issued by the BCCI along with the squad announcement. The in-form Kohli is set to appear in a fitness test on Monday in Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer remains the vice-captain, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan were selected as wicketkeepers. India will play the three ODIs against England at Edgbaston (July 14), Sophia Gardens (July 16) and Lord's (July 19). Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma activated their free-flowing mode while making an unbeaten 110 and 79 respectively, backing up Prasidh Krishna's career-best 5 for 23 as India flayed Afghanistan by nine wickets in the third and final ODI here on Saturday. The victory helped India sweep the three-match ODI series 3-0. The target of 219 was never really going to test the Indians, and they completed the chase in a mere 28.4 overs, leaving a valiant 102 by Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi as a mere footnote. India finished with 224 for one, laced by Jaiswal's second ODI hundred. Realistically, neither Rohit nor Jaiswal, who could not have timed his second ODI hundred no better, have nothing to prove but their immediate situation made it mandatory for them to make this outing count. Rohit needed a substantial innings to keep the swelling competition for his place at bay for the time being, and Jaiswal needed a big score to keep himself in contention for India's thickly populate

In its bid to beat the extreme May heat in most parts of the country, the BCCI is contemplating an early start to the IPL, eyeing a March 10-May 15 window for future editions starting next year, Board secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI in an exclusive interview. However, he made it clear that due to international calender constraints, the number of matches will remain 74 and not be increased to 94. The IPL usually gets underway in the last week of March and winds up towards the end of May. Saikia said an early IPL would protect the interest of both players as well as the paying public. "This year, IPL started around the March 29th (28th), and it was over by May 31. Only thing which we are discussing is that during the fag end of the tournament after May 15...there is apprehension of having rainfall or pre-monsoon season starting. "On the other hand, there is hot weather which is not very conducive either for the players or for the crowds," Saikia said in the interaction. He said th
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma sizzled with the bat as India coasted to an emphatic 95-run win over the Netherlands in their Women's T20 World Cup match here on Wednesday. The Indian opening duo of Mandhana (74 off 47 balls) and Shafali (55 off 38 balls) slayed a hapless Netherlands attack to fire India to 209/5, their highest total in the tournament history. The pair shared a 115-run stand off 70 balls after Netherlands put the opposition in to bat. The Netherlands were never in the run chase despite promising knocks from skipper Babette de Leede (28 off 27 balls) and Sterre Kallis (18 off 13 balls) before being bundled out for 114 in 17.3 overs. From India's point of view, the biggest scare came when off-spinner Shreyanka Patil was stretchered off the field after twisting her ankle while fielding off her very first ball of the evening. India next face a much tougher opponent in South Africa in Manchester on June 21. On her World Cup debut, pacer Nandani Sharma had a producti
