The death toll in the fire accident at a cracker shop near here reached 14 on Sunday following the death of two more people, police sources said. While 12 people were charred to death on the spot at the shop-cum-godown at Attibele in Anekal Taluk on Saturday, two others died while undergoing treatment today. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar visited the spot on Saturday and announced a compensaton of Rs five lakh each to the deceased. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed grief over the deaths. Most of those who died were employed at the firecracker godown-cum-shop, police said, adding efforts are being taken to ascertain the identity of the deceased. The incident occurred around 3.30 pm while unloading firecracker cartons from a transport vehicle. "Some employees were working inside the shop when the fire broke out," Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural) Mallikarjun Baladandi said. The Syrian government early Thursday shelled a village in the rebel-held northwestern part of the country, killing at least five civilians, activists and emergency workers said. Six persons including five of a family were killed on Monday in violence arising out of bad blood in Fatehpur village of Rudrapur area here, police said. The incident took place in the Lehda Tola area in the morning, they said. Former district panchayat member Prem Yadav was attacked with sharp edged weapons and killed by his rival Satyaprakash Dubey and his family, Special DG Prashant Kumar said. In retaliation, Yadav's supporters from Abhaipur attacked Dubey's house and killed Dubey and five of his family, he said. The violence erupted out of a land dispute the two families were locked in. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the killings, Kumar said. A fire at a wedding hall in northern Iraq killed at least 100 people and injured 150 others, authorities said Wednesday. The fire happened in Iraq's Nineveh province in its Hamdaniya area, they said.
