Delhi assembly polls: 7,552 eligible electors opt for home voting facility

A total of 7,552 electors have opted for the home voting facility, available to elderly voters and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), for the upcoming Delhi Assembly election. The home voting facility is available to voters above 85 years of age and PwDs, offering them the option to cast their votes from their homes, it said. According to a statement, the Election Commission of India (ECI) deployed 206 teams of polling officers across 11 districts and 70 Assembly constituencies in the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), ensuring smooth and timely execution as per ECI guidelines. As of January 31, 2025, 92 per cent of registered home voters have successfully cast their votes. This includes 5,982 senior citizens and 998 persons with disabilities. District West recorded the highest home-voting turnout at 94 per cent, the statement said. It mentioned that polling officials and security personnel visit voters' residences to collect their votes and voters are notified in advance .

Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday claimed that even BJP supporters are saving up to Rs 25,000 per month through the schemes implemented by the AAP government in Delhi, and urged them to vote for his party in the February 5 Assembly elections. In a video message, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor claimed that he spoke to a BJP supporter, and questioned the benefits being provided in the BJP-ruled states. Delhi Assembly polls: 7 AAP MLAs quit party after being denied tickets

With less than a week before the assembly polls in Delhi, at least seven outgoing AAP MLAs have resigned from the party. Sources said these MLAs were disgruntled after being denied tickets for the February 5 polls and were touch with other parties. Most of the MLAs shared their resignation letters on social media and slammed AAP over corruption and other issues. Madan Lal, the outgoing MLA from Kasturba Nagar, claimed on Friday that he and six other party legislators had resigned from AAP's primary membership. Lal said they had also sent their resignation letters to Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. The AAP MLAs who have resigned also include Bhavna Gaud (Palam), Naresh Yadav (Mehrauli), Rohit Mehraulia (Trilokpuri) and Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar). Delhi polls: CEO Vaz assures voter-friendly steps for smooth Feb 5 voting

Around 1.56 crore voters are set to exercise their electoral franchise in the Delhi Assembly election on February 5 as voter-friendly measures have been put in place for the smooth polling process, Chief Electoral Officer R. Alice Vaz said. To facilitate voting, 13,766 polling stations have been set up across 2,969 polling premises. Of these, 733 polling stations are designated for persons with disabilities, Vaz said. Around 1.56 crore voters, including 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women, and 1,267 individuals from the third gender will cast their ballot on February 5. Every household in Delhi saves an average of Rs 25,000 a month due to the AAP government's welfare schemes and if the party returns to power, its new initiatives will add another Rs 10,000 to people's savings, party supremo Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.
