Man in Delhi arrested for creating bomb hoax at Kashmere Gate metro station

A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call about a bomb planted at Kashmere Gate metro station, police said on Monday. Rahul Gupta, a native of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh, made the call in an inebriated state on Sunday, they said. At 8:22 pm on Sunday, Kashmere Gate metro police station received a call from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room that a bomb had been planted at Kashmere Gate metro station, a senior police officer said. An intensive search was carried out but no bomb or suspicious article was found on the metro station premises, they said. The identity of the person who called the CISF control room was established, his personal details were obtained and he was arrested later, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Ram Gopal Naik said. During interrogation, Gupta revealed that he works at a spare parts shop at Church Road, Kashmere Gate and had made the call in an inebriated state to create alarm among the public on the .

DMRC invites tenders to measure vibrations of structures at 90 locations

To ensure the safety of the entire Delhi Metro infrastructure and enhance its efficiency, the DMRC has invited tenders to measure vibrations at 90 locations across its network, officials said on Monday. This work shall be completed within a year of award of tender and these locations shall be finalised in due course according to internal assessments, they said. "Tri-axial velocity sensors shall be used to measure and monitor the vibrations. The monitoring shall be done for 24 hours with duly calibrated velocity sensors. The agency will then submit the report for the same to the DMRC within seven days after completion of the monitoring," a senior official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. They will also have to follow the guidelines set by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Delhi Metro services to start early on I-Day, no parking at stations

Delhi Metro services will begin early on August 15 to facilitate passengers attending the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, officials said on Saturday. Besides, parking facilities will not be available at all the Delhi Metro stations from 6 am on Monday till 2 pm on Tuesday in view of the security measures taken for the 77th Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. However, the Metro train services will run as per the normal schedule on Monday, the DMRC officials said. "To facilitate the passengers to attend the Independence Day ceremony on 15th August, the Delhi Metro train services on all Lines will start from 5 am from all terminal stations," the DMRC statement said. DMRC to make passengers aware about CO2 emissions reduction due to Metro

Delhi Metro passengers will now be able to know on the go about the average amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions they are reducing by virtue of their metro journeys, the DMRC said on Wednesday. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has unveiled a pioneering initiative called 'CarbonLite Metro Travel' to educate passengers about their significant contribution towards reducing carbon emissions by choosing metro trains instead of road-based motor vehicles, it said in a statement. Withdraw order allowing commuters to carry liquor in trains: DMRC told

A traders' body on Monday said it has appealed to the DMRC, urging it to take back its decision to allow commuters to carry two sealed liquor bottles in Delhi Metro trains. The Chamber of Trade and Industry, in a statement, alleged that anti-social activities will increase if liquor is permitted to be carried inside trains and said that a delegation of the traders' body will meet DMRC chief Vikas Kumar to discuss the issue. "The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has given permission to carry two sealed bottles of liquor (per person) in the Metro. Now there is an opposition to it. Delhi Metro trains are crossing the four Yamuna bridges with a restricted speed of 30 kmph as a precautionary measure due to rising water level of the Yamuna, the DMRC said on Thursday. The swollen river has crossed the danger mark, breaching the all-time record of 1978, flooding low-lying areas near the banks. At 10 am on Thursday, the water level in Yamuna was at 208.53 metres. Although the Yamuna water level remained stable for three hours on Thursday, it started rising again to reach 208.66 by 7 pm, three metres above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. People are taking to technology to book Delhi Metro tickets as its newly launched mobile application has crossed over 1.75 lakh downloads, officials said on Wednesday. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) launched 'DMRC TRAVEL' -- a dedicated mobile application for its passengers for generating convenient and hassle-free mobile-based QR-code tickets for travelling across its network -- on June 30. "A big thanks to the commuters who have made our journey incredible! We are thrilled to announce that the DMRC travel app has crossed 1.75 lakh downloads," the DMRC tweeted on Wednesday. Services curtailed on section of Delhi Metro's Magenta Line for hours

Services on a section of Delhi Metro's Magenta Line were curtailed for several hours on Tuesday due to waterlogging on a portion of the tracks between Dabri Mor and Janakpuri West segment of the corridor, according to officials. The Magenta Line connects Janakpuri West in Delhi to Botanical Garden in Noida. "Train services on Magenta Line (Line-8 from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden) were regulated today owing to waterlogging between Dabri Mor and Janakpuri West section on the upline track (trains going towards Janakpuri West)," the DMRC said in a statement. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday launched a dedicated mobile app for its passengers for generating convenient and hassle-free mobile-based QR-code tickets for travelling across its network, officials said. The app 'DMRC TRAVEL' was formally launched by Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC from the Metro Bhawan here in the presence of senior officials. With this new mobile app, passengers can now purchase tickets directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to go to ticket counters or vending machines or stand in queues. CMRS approves operation on priority section of Delhi-Meerut RAPIDX service

The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety has approved the operation of the RAPIDX service on the priority section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System corridor, officials of the NCRTC said. The 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot. Earlier, the Ministry of Railways had sanctioned RRTS rolling stock (train sets), which has a design speed of 180 kmph and operational speed of 160 kmph, the officials said.
