Delhi Metro to sell 'Tourist Smart Cards' from Sept 4-13 at 36 stations

Anticipating increased footfall of passengers owing to the upcoming G20 Summit here, Delhi Metro will sell 'Tourist Smart Cards' through dedicated counters at 36 stations from September 4-13, officials said. These are available in two categories -- one-day validity and three-day validity cards -- offering "unlimited rides" in the metro network. These 'Tourist Smart Cards' are available on regular days too, but in view of the G20 Summit, dedicated counters have been opened which would start selling these cards for a period of 10 days starting Monday, a senior official said. The G20 Leaders' Summit is slated to take place in New Delhi from September 9-10. These dedicated counters have been provided to "facilitate G20 delegates and international visitors who might be interested in exploring the prominent tourist places of the capital city as they arrive in Delhi, owing to the upcoming G20 Summit," he said. DMRC conducts drive to stop entry of male passengers into women coaches

Delhi Metro on Friday started a special drive to stop entry of male passengers into coaches reserved for women and issued penalties to violators. The drive may be extended beyond the stipulated ten days, based on the outcomes achieved, a senior official said. "Delhi Metro today started a special drive to stop the entry of male passengers in the coaches reserved for ladies. The drive will be jointly conducted by DMRC, CISF & DMRP from 6 pm to 10 pm on all lines of the network for the next 10 days till 10th September, 2023. #DelhiMetro," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on 'X'. The quantum of penalty for a male passenger who enters a women-only coach is Rs 250, the official said. "This drive may be extended further after the first 10 days based on the outcome achieved. Necessary punitive action shall be taken against the offenders as per the existing provisions," the Delhi Metro said on 'X' and also added pictures of the drive on its account.

1 arrested, 1 detained for pro-Khalistan messages on Delhi Metro walls

The Delhi Police has arrested one person and detained one more in connection with writing pro-Khalistan messages on the walls of four Delhi Metro stations ahead of the G20 Summit, officials said on Thursday. At a press conference here, police said the accused carried out the act on the directions of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the chief of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) outfit. Police said while Preet Pal has been arrested, Rajvinder Singh was detained. He will be arrested once he reaches Delhi, they said. Pro-Khalistan messages -- "Delhi Banega Khalistan" and "Khalistan Zindabad" -- were found on the walls of Shivaji Park, Madipur, Paschim Vihar, Udyog Nagar, and Maharaja Surajmal Stadium metro stadiums on August 27. Two detained for pro-Khalistan messages found on Delhi Metro walls

The Delhi Police has detained two persons in connection with writing pro-Khalistan messages on the walls of at least five Delhi Metro stations ahead of the G20 Summit, officials said on Thursday. Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa said the two persons were detained from Punjab by the Delhi Police's Special Cell. Another officer said that their interrogation was underway. Pro-Khalistan messages -- "Delhi Banega Khalistan" and "Khalistan Zindabad" -- were found on the walls of Shivaji Park, Madipur, Paschim Vihar, Udyog Nagar, and Maharaja Surajmal Stadium metro stadiums on August 27. Delhi Metro to make 106 extra trips on Wednesday in view of Rakshabandhan

Delhi Metro will be running around 106 extra train trips on its corridors on Wednesday to facilitate passengers on the festival of Raksha Bandhan, officials said. Additional Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) personnel will also be deployed at stations to cater to the extra rush of commuters by operating additional ticket counters, they said on Tuesday. If required, additional standby trains will also be kept for induction into services to clear the rush, officials said. Passengers are requested to use DMRC Travel Mobile App to buy QR code-based tickets to avoid rush at ticket counters, they said. Guards and customer facilitation agents will be deployed at major metro stations to help and guide commuters, the DMRC said.

Delhi Metro records highest-ever daily passenger journeys on Aug 28: DMRC

Delhi Metro on August 28 recorded the highest-ever count of daily passenger journeys -- 68.16 lakh -- for the period spanning before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, the DMRC said on Tuesday. The previous highest recorded passenger journey count stood at 66,18,717 on February 10, 2020, just before the pandemic disrupted travel patterns and routines, officials said. The record figures have been registered days ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival, and officials said ridership jumps on this occasion, but this time it happened a few days earlier. Man in Delhi arrested for creating bomb hoax at Kashmere Gate metro station

A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call about a bomb planted at Kashmere Gate metro station, police said on Monday. Rahul Gupta, a native of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh, made the call in an inebriated state on Sunday, they said. At 8:22 pm on Sunday, Kashmere Gate metro police station received a call from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room that a bomb had been planted at Kashmere Gate metro station, a senior police officer said. An intensive search was carried out but no bomb or suspicious article was found on the metro station premises, they said. The identity of the person who called the CISF control room was established, his personal details were obtained and he was arrested later, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Ram Gopal Naik said. During interrogation, Gupta revealed that he works at a spare parts shop at Church Road, Kashmere Gate and had made the call in an inebriated state to create alarm among the public on the .

DMRC invites tenders to measure vibrations of structures at 90 locations

To ensure the safety of the entire Delhi Metro infrastructure and enhance its efficiency, the DMRC has invited tenders to measure vibrations at 90 locations across its network, officials said on Monday. This work shall be completed within a year of award of tender and these locations shall be finalised in due course according to internal assessments, they said. "Tri-axial velocity sensors shall be used to measure and monitor the vibrations. The monitoring shall be done for 24 hours with duly calibrated velocity sensors. The agency will then submit the report for the same to the DMRC within seven days after completion of the monitoring," a senior official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. Delhi Metro services will begin early on August 15 to facilitate passengers attending the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, officials said on Saturday. Besides, parking facilities will not be available at all the Delhi Metro stations from 6 am on Monday till 2 pm on Tuesday in view of the security measures taken for the 77th Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. DMRC to make passengers aware about CO2 emissions reduction due to Metro

Delhi Metro passengers will now be able to know on the go about the average amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions they are reducing by virtue of their metro journeys, the DMRC said on Wednesday. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has unveiled a pioneering initiative called 'CarbonLite Metro Travel' to educate passengers about their significant contribution towards reducing carbon emissions by choosing metro trains instead of road-based motor vehicles, it said in a statement. A traders' body on Monday said it has appealed to the DMRC, urging it to take back its decision to allow commuters to carry two sealed liquor bottles in Delhi Metro trains. The Chamber of Trade and Industry, in a statement, alleged that anti-social activities will increase if liquor is permitted to be carried inside trains and said that a delegation of the traders' body will meet DMRC chief Vikas Kumar to discuss the issue. Delhi Metro trains are crossing the four Yamuna bridges with a restricted speed of 30 kmph as a precautionary measure due to rising water level of the Yamuna, the DMRC said on Thursday. The swollen river has crossed the danger mark, breaching the all-time record of 1978, flooding low-lying areas near the banks. At 10 am on Thursday, the water level in Yamuna was at 208.53 metres. Although the Yamuna water level remained stable for three hours on Thursday, it started rising again to reach 208.66 by 7 pm, three metres above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. "Due to rising water levels of the Yamuna, trains are passing through all the four Metro bridges on the river with a restricted speed of 30 kmph as a precautionary measure.
