AAP and corruption have become synonyms: Delhi BJP Chief Sachdeva

The BJP on Monday alleged corruption in the health department by the AAP government and claimed the Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has taken cognisance of it. Addressing a press conference here, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that they had filed a complaint to the Delhi ACB regarding corruption by the AAP and the authority has taken cognisance of it. There was no immediate reaction from the AAP on the BJP's allegations. "All departments of the Delhi government have become epicenters of corruption whether it is health, education or any other department," Sachdeva said. He added the AAP and corruption have become synonyms, and the Arvind Kejriwal government runs away from all responsibilities and fulfills them by holding press conferences. "Whenever there is corruption or any other irregularity, the AAP minister will blame the officers claiming themselves sacred. If that's the case, then what are you doing as ministers?" Delhi's Okhla demolition: Residents say not enough time given to move out

A demolition drive was carried out on Friday by authorities in southeast Delhi's Okhla Phase-2 JJ cluster under heavy security arrangements, officials said. Residents alleged that they have been living here for many years and that they were not given enough time to take out their belongings. Dheeraj, a resident of the area, said that they received a notice regarding the demolition two days ago. "They came here with their bulldozer around 10 am. They did not give us time to take our belongings from our homes. Around 50 shanties are being razed here. We have been living in the area for past many years," he said. Anil Kumar, another resident, said, "Several families were living here for last 40 years. We have nowhere to go. We did not get time to arrange an alternate place where can we shift our stuff." According to police, adequate security personnel have been provided to maintain law and order situation in the area during the demolition, which is still underway.

Realty firm Prestige Estates launches QIP to raise up to Rs 5,000 crore

Realty firm Prestige Estates Projects Ltd plans to raise up to Rs 5,000 crore by selling equity shares to institutional investors through private placement. The company on Thursday launched its Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). A fundraising committee of the board approved the floor price for the QIP issue at Rs 1,755.09 per equity share. In July, the company had taken approval of its shareholders to raise capital by way of public or private offerings including through a QIP to eligible investors through an issuance of equity shares or other eligible securities for an amount not exceeding Rs 5,000 crore. Noida mall evacuates people sparking bomb threats; mall says security drill

Several people were evacuated from DLF Mall of India in Sector 18 here on Saturday triggering fear of a bomb threat even as the mall authorities said it was a security drill. Delhi-NCR's real estate market has attracted highest private equity investment of USD 633.3 million during January-June period of this year as investors look to encash high demand for prime office space and luxury housing, according to Cushman & Wakefield. In its latest capital market report, real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield mentioned that Delhi-NCR attracted USD 633.3 million of inflows during the first six months of this calendar year. Out of the total investment in Delhi-NCR, office assets received USD 483.6 million, while residential USD 149.6 million. The consultant noted that the surge in investments in Delhi-NCR has been primarily driven by the office segment, with major equity buy-outs by prominent fund houses. NHRC notice to Delhi, Haryana, UP over deaths by drowning, electrocution

The NHRC on Saturday said it has issued notices to the Delhi government, vice chairman of the DDA and Haryana and Uttar Pradesh authorities in connection with reported incidents of drowning and electrocution in Delhi and neighbouring cities in which several lives have been lost. The reported incidents, as in the recent past, are indicative of the "negligence by the civic authorities, which is a matter of concern", it said in a statement. The NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that at least 13 lives were lost in Delhi-NCR including six due to electrocution and four due to drowning after falling into overflowing drains amid heavy rain "magnifying the creaky infrastructure and civic negligence", the rights panel said. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday launched sales of tomatoes at a subsidised rate of Rs 60 per kg in Delhi-NCR as part of the government's efforts to stabilise prices and provide relief to the common man. The National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd (NCCF) vans will provide tomatoes at a subsidised rate. The tomatoes will be sold in Delhi along with Noida and Gurugram, according to an official statement. The Centre undertook the market intervention initiative to stabilise rising tomato prices in the retail market. While addressing the media during the flagging-off ceremony, Joshi said the Department of Consumer Affairs has decided to launch this initiative to check the surge of tomato prices in major cities, especially Delhi. "From today onwards subsidised tomatoes will be sold for Rs 60 per kg," he said. Cloud cover enveloped Delhi as parts of the city received rain on Wednesday, bringing respite from the intense humidity that had gripped the city over the past few days. The weather department, in its notification at 3 pm, said that moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, with wind speeds of 40 to 60 kmph, and lightning, is likely to occur across Delhi and the NCR. "There is no warning for heavy rain in Delhi as of now," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told PTI.
