Stop line violations at traffic signals up by 32% in Delhi, says police

Violations of the stop line at traffic signals in the national capital have seen a significant rise this year with a 32 per cent spike, police said on Sunday. Delhi Traffic Police has recorded 2.37 lakh such violations in 2024, up from 1.8 lakh such violations last year, data showed. "Delhi Traffic Police have noted a substantial rise in the number of prosecutions for stop line violations this year," said a senior officer of the Delhi Traffic Police. "This represents an approximate increase of 32 per cent rise in the number of prosecutions for stop line violations compared to the same period last year," said the officer. Police said that these violations pose a significant risk to pedestrian safety and disrupt the smooth flow of traffic. Delhi Traffic Police books over 240,000 violators for improper parking

The Delhi Traffic Police has booked over 2.4 lakh violators for improper parking this year so far which is an increase of nearly 35 per cent as compared to the last year, officials said on Sunday. The traffic police has reported a significant surge in prosecutions related to improper parking violations in the current year, they said. The officials said this marked increase in enforcement is part of a broader initiative to improve traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users within the city. Over the past several months, the Delhi Traffic Police has intensified its efforts to address the widespread issue of improper parking, which has been identified as a major contributor to traffic congestion and accidents. Ahead of swearing-in, roads near Rashtrapati Bhawan to remain closed today

In view of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony this evening, the Delhi Traffic Police has made special arrangements and issued an advisory on diversions and restrictions in the vicinity of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. According to the advisory issued Sunday morning, no traffic movement will be allowed on the Sansad Marg (between Transport Bhawan and T-point Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg), North Avenue Road, South Avenue Road, Kushak Road, Rajaji Marg, Krishna Menon Marg, Talkatora Road and Pt. Pant Marg between 2 pm to 11 pm. Pedestrian movement, however, will be allowed. "No vehicle will be allowed to halt or park anywhere on Imtiaz Khan Marg, Rakab Ganj Road, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Pandit Pant Marg and Talkatora Road," said the advisory. 101 challans issued for minor driving offences from Jan to mid-May in Delhi

The Delhi Police has issued 101 challans for minor driving offences from January till May 15, as per the official data. A total of 15 challans were issued during the same period in 2023, data from the Delhi Traffic Police revealed. "A surge of nearly 573 per cent was witnessed this year. The rise in prosecutions serves as a deterrent, highlighting the legal consequences of such violations," a senior police officer said. According to traffic police, they have implemented several strategic measures aimed at tackling this issue. These measures include heightened surveillance, deployment of additional personnel at key checkpoints, and increased patrolling in areas known for frequent traffic violations by minors. 100,000 commuters fined for pollution certificate violations in Delhi

A total of 101,164 instances of Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) violations were recorded in the first four months of 2024, the Delhi Traffic Police said on Sunday. This is 30 per cent higher than the violations recorded last year, which stood at 78,169 challans, during the same period -- between January 1 and April 30, official data of the Delhi Traffic Police revealed. "We have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the top ten traffic circles, including Model Town, Karol Bagh, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Punjabi Bagh and Tilak Nagar, among others, with the highest number of challans issued in 2024," a senior police officer of the Delhi Traffic Police said.
