DU to hold entrance exams from June 30 to July 6

The Delhi University will hold its entrance exams for postgraduate, MPhil, PhD and nine undergraduate courses from June 30 to July 6, officials said Thursday. This year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting the entrance exams for the first time. There are 11 undergraduate courses, for which entrance exams will be happening, but for music and physical education, the tests will be conducted internally by the varsity, the officials said. For undergraduate courses, admissions will be made based on marks scored in the entrance test and class 12 examination. Entrance tests will be conducted in centres located in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi (NCR includes Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad), Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Ranchi, Trivandrum and Varanasi for postgraduate courses. IIT Mandi launches Bachelor's programme in Engineering Physics

The Indian Institute of Technology-Mandi is launching a new B.Tech programme in Engineering Physics from the next academic year starting in August, officials said on Thursday. The programme is being offered jointly by School of Basic Sciences (SBS), School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE) and the School of Engineering (SE) at IIT Mandi, they said. The curriculum of Engineering Physics will introduce students to a wide variety of fields in pure as well as applied Physics. Over 2.38 lakh students register on DU's website for admissions till now

Over 2.38 lakh students have registered on the Delhi University's website for admissions in undergraduate courses till Thursday, the varsity said. The university started registrations on May 30 for undergraduate courses and the admission process will end on June 14. The first cut-off list is likely to be released on June 20, second on June 25 and the third to be released on June 29. The fourth and fifth cut-off lists will be out on July 4 and July 9 respectively. Till now, 2,38,741 students have registered and 1,35,030 have made payments, the varsity said. Out of the total number of registrations, 84,937 aspirants are from the unreserved category, 24,125 from other backward classes, 19,349 from scheduled castes, 3,964 from scheduled tribes and 2,655 from the economically weaker section (EWS), it said. Guj govt cancels Navratri vacation for schools & colleges

The Gujarat government Thursday cancelled the eight-day Navratri vacation announced earlier for the state-run or affiliated schools and colleges following opposition from the self-financed schools. For the first time, the BJP government had last year declared holidays during the Navratri on 'popular demand'. This year as well, the state government had announced that an eight-day vacation will be given between September 30 and October 7. JK sets up panels aimed at spreading environmental awareness among students

The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up official panels to implement and monitor the Centre's National Green Corps scheme aimed at spreading environmental awareness among children. The scheme was formulated by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2001-02 to build up cadres of young children working for environmental conservation and sustainable development. Telangana: Exam papers go missing from police station in Warangal

In yet another case of embarrassment to the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TBIE), boxes of question papers for advanced supplementary exams were reported missing from a police station in Warangal on Wednesday.Two out of 13 boxes of question papers for the advanced examination, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, went missing from the Mills Colony police station here.The incident came to light after the board officials went to the police station to deposit extra boxes of question papers, police said on Wednesday.A preliminary probe by the police revealed that both intermediate and secondary school certificates (SSC) question papers were kept in two different trunks separately since March.Police suspect that school education department officials took away the boxes containing intermediate question papers by mistake and not coming forward fearing punishment. Students' body calls off indefinite hunger strike in Nagaland

An indefinite hunger strike called by a students' body in Nagaland in support of its five-point charter of demands has been called off following the intervention of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the organisers said Wednesday. The demands included action against erring officials for alleged siphoning of Rs 1.32 crore from the state technical scholarship funds in 2014-16 and resignation of the director of technical education for not revealing the names of those involved. On the expiry of an ultimatum seeking fulfillment of their demands served to the Technical Education Department on May 25, the All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) had launched the hunger strike on June 4. UNSW Sydney Diplomas in Engineering, Science now Recognised in India

/ -- The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has announced that the Association of Indian Universities will issue equivalence certificates for Australian transcripts which include all units recognised by the degree-issuing institution. This arrangement will also extend to any units taught as part of a pathway qualification. Students from India completing the UNSW Diploma in Engineering or Diploma in Science will have their qualifications officially recognised in India. A Diploma student will be studying courses equivalent to first-year undergraduates which are accredited by UNSW Sydney and benefit from additional support during their studies. Upon successful completion, a Diploma program student will progress directly to year 2 of the undergraduate degree. Stalin demands exemption from NEET for TN students

NEET 2019: Over 7.95 lakh candidates living in India clear exam

Here are some statistics related to NEET 2019. A total of7,95,031 candidates living in India cleared NEET 2019. As many as 315 foreign nationals, 1,209 NRIs, 441 candidates holding OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards and 46 PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin) also cleared the exam. Two candidates scored 700 marks out of 720 but secured different ranks, five scored 695, two 691, 16 candidates scored 690, three scored 687, 13 scored 685 and five scored 686 marks. According to officials, if two candidates are tied on the same score, the one who obtains the higher marks in biology gets a higher rank. Those who score high in chemistry are given the next preference. Delhi had the highest percentage of candidates clearing the exam at 74.92, followed by Haryana (73.41) and Chandigarh (73.24). DU admissions 2019: Over 2.29 lakh register for undergraduate courses

Over 2.29 lakh aspirants had registered on Delhi University's admission portal for undergraduate courses till Wednesday, the varsity said. The registration process commenced on May 30 and will go on till June 14. Till Wednesday, 2,29,837 candidates had registered on the portal, while 1,28,787 had made payments. Out of the registered candidates, 81,206 belong to the unreserved category, 22,798 are from the OBC category, 18,539 from SC, 3,770 from ST and 2,474 from the EWS category, which was introduced this year. The varsity also began the registration for postgraduate courses from June 3. Out of 39,160 candidates who have registered so far, 18,217 are men, 20,932 are women, while 11 belong to the third gender. The number of paid applications is 13,952.

Intermediate question papers go missing from Warangal police

Days after an alleged goof-up in declaration of intermediate exam results, question papers of the 'Intermediate Advance Supplementary Examinations' were found missing from a police station here where they were stored. The exams are slated to be held from June 7. The question papers of Zoology, Mathematics and English exams scheduled to be held on June 10 and 11 are missing, police said. The Board of Intermediate Education said students need not worry as exams would be conducted as scheduled with new sets of question papers. "It has come to knowledge from a preliminary report that two trunk boxes containing question papers, which were kept at Warangal police station, were missing. The exams will be conducted as per schedule from 7/6/19 with new sets of question papers," the board said in a release Wedensday night. Uttar Pradesh's Akshat Kaushik, who secured the third rank in NEET 2019, says during his two years of preparation, social media ensured that he did not break under the pressure of studies. The results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 were declared on Wednesday with Rajasthan's Nalin Khandelwal topping the exam. Delhi had the highest percentage of candidates clearing the exam at 74.92, followed by Haryana (73.41) and Chandigarh (73.24). Nagaland had the lowest pass percentage of 29.34. Kasturirangan says no efforts to impose Hindi

Former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan, who heads a panel on new National Education Policy, clarified that there were no efforts to impose Hindi even as he dismissed reports of dissent against the removal of the Hindi clause. Political parties, especially in the state of Tamil Nadu, had strongly opposed the three-language formula proposed in the draft National Education Policy (NEP) alleging that it was tantamount to thrusting Hindi language on non-Hindi speaking states. Kasturirangan asserted that there was never an attempt to impose Hindi. "We had two approved versions where one of them did not convey the spirit of the language policy as we wanted to give. Over 59 pc students clear NEET 2019 in Odisha

Odisha, where the NEET 2019 was postponed due to cyclone 'Fani', saw over 59 per cent of the students clearing the exam, a minor decline from last year. Last year, 60.68 per cent of the candidates had qualified the exam as compared to this year's 59.44 per cent. The HRD Ministry had taken the decision to postpone the exam from May 5 to May 20 following a request from the Odisha administration in view of the rehabilitation work being underway in the state in the aftermath of the cyclone. Out of 35,093 students who registered for the exam, 32,378 appeared for it. As many as 19,244 students qualified the exam. Karnataka students who had missed the medical entrance examination due to a train delay had also got another chance. The state saw 63.25 per cent of the candidates qualifying the exam, a minor decline from last year's 63.51 per cent. Out of 1,02,735 candidates who took the exam, 64,982 qualified it.

NEET topper Nalin Khandelwal credits parents, teachers support for the feat

Nalin Khandelwal, hailing from Sikar district of Rajasthan, topped the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 Wednesday. Apart from Khandelwal, three more students from the state secured positions in the top ten ranks in the examination. Khandelwal, whose parents are doctors, said he prepared for the examination for two years. He scored 701 marks out of 720 to top the exam. "I fully focused on studies for two years in Jaipur. Since my parents are doctors and my elder brother is also doing his MBBS, I got full support from them as well as from my teachers," he told reporters.
