Nine students from Delhi are among the top 50 scorers of NEET 2019, with 74.92 per cent candidates from the national capital qualifying the test. While Delhi's Bhavik Bansal came in second in the country with 700 out of 720 marks, Mihir Rai secured the ninth position in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) with 695 marks. Days after an alleged goof-up in declaration of intermediate exam results, question papers of the 'Intermediate Advance Supplementary Examinations' were found missing from a police station here where they were stored. The exams are slated to be held from June 7. The question papers of Zoology, Mathematics and English exams scheduled to be held on June 10 and 11 are missing, police said. Warangal-City Deputy Commissioner of Police, M Narsimha said the question papers went missing from the Warangal Inthezar Gunj Police Station. Warangal intermediate department officer Lingaiah lodged a complaint in this regard, police said. Over 2.14 lakh students have registered on the Delhi University's website for admissions to undergraduate courses till Tuesday, the varsity said. The university started registrations on May 30 for undergraduate courses and the admission process will end on June 14. The first cut-off list is likely to be released on June 20, second cut-off list will be out on June 25 and the third will be released on June 29. The fourth and fifth cut-off lists will be out on July 4 and July 9, respectively. Till now, 2,14,322 students have registered and 1,15,999have made payments, the varsity said. A Jawaharlal Nehru University student has written to vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, alleging that an entrance exam paper was leaked. "Submitted a letter to Vice Chancellor and Controller of examination JNU demanding an enquiry into the suspicion among the JNUEE candidates that the entrance question paper Cluster 1 of 28th May 2019 was leaked," the student, Vishnu Prasad, said in a Facebook post on Monday. During a review meeting with senior ministry officials, Pokhriyal also highlighted the importance of quality education and the need to create as many vocational courses as possible in order to push the youth into the employment stream without delay, an official statement said. In view of the prevailing heat, the Delhi government has issued an advisory for school students and discontinued the summer sports and yoga coaching camps for them. The advisory directed the heads of all government, government-aided and unaided recognised schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE) to sensitise the students regarding heatwave-related illnesses in the morning assembly or in classrooms by the nodal teachers, designated to carry out activities related to raising awareness on heatwave-related illnesses in schools. Students from other boards who feel that a subject they studied has a similar syllabus to that of NCERT and is not in the list accepted by the Delhi University can produce an equivalence certificate from their board, officials said Tuesday. This year, the DU's admissions committee has mapped different subjects from various state boards that have different nomenclature but same curriculum as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) subjects, which are considered standard by the varsity. Some of these subjects are biochemistry, which is taught by the Jammu and Kashmir Board but is similar to biology, civics which is a subject under the Uttar Pradesh Board. Earlier, students from other boards would face 2.5 per cent deduction in marks since these subjects would fall under the category of vocational subjects, but this year students will not lose out on marks. However, if a student finds that the subject he or she studied in his or her respective board is similar to the NCERT class .

Three school students on Tuesday drowned while swimming in a river in central Mizoram's Serchhip district, a police officer said. The three were students of Baktawng Higher Secondary School and they drowned in river Tuirial during a school picnic, the police officer said. The deceased were identified as Vanlalhruaii and Lalthanzauva, both students of class 12 and Lalthanfela, a class 11 student, he said. The bodies were brought to Baktawng village for post- mortem examination, the police officer said, adding, the funeral services will be held on Wednesday.
The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre and the BSF to respond to a plea by 30 employees of Polytechnic, Signal Training School who have sought regularisation of their services so that they can be relocated to other centres following the closure the branch in the capital. A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar issued notice to the Ministry of Home Affairs, BSF Director General, BSF Education Fund and BSF Polytechnic, Signal Training School (STS), on two limited prayers in the petition. The entire education system of the country should be streamlined so that students do not have to face stress while seeking admissions to various courses, the Supreme Court said Tuesday. Taking note of "plight of students" due to uncertainty over admissions to post graduate medical and dental courses in the academic year 2019-20 in Maharashtra, the apex court said such a situation is difficult for the meritorious students. "Our anxiety is for the students. This happens every year and there is uncertainty in the mind of students with regard to admissions in medical or other courses," a vacation bench comprising Justices Indu Malhotra and M R Shah said while hearing the Maharashtra medical admission matter.
