Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao Monday signed an ordinance to provide quota under the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) Reservation Act, 2018, to candidates from the Maratha community seeking admission to post-graduate medical and dental courses. The ordinance was issued by the Governor on the recommendation of the state government to protect the admissions of students in the PG courses. The ordinance route was taken by the Maharashtra government after the Supreme Court struck down reservations for Maratha students under the SEBC quota in PG medical and dental courses this year. The ruling cancelled admissions granted to 253 students under the quota. The ordinance is aimed to further explain the intent of the state government to provide quota for the Maratha community. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha, which conducts Matriculation (Class X) Examinations for Odia medium schools in the state, will publish this year's results on Tuesday. At least six lakh students took this year's examination at over 3,000 centres across the state, BSE president Jahan Ara Begum said. "The matriculation examination results will be declared at 9am on Tuesday and the students can know their marks by visiting the official websites of the board after 11 am," she said. The results will also be made available through SMS, she added. "The two official websites of the board are www.bseodisha.ac.in and www.bseodisha.nic.in. The results will be available in these websites 11 am onwards. Those who do not have internet facilities, can know their results by sending sms to 5676750 by typing OR10roll number," Begum said. The examination was held from February 22 to March 8. The evaluations of answer sheets were completed in April, sources said.

West Bengal government has directed all colleges in the state that the admission process this year has to be completely online and students cannot be asked to come to campus before classes start, an official said Monday. The move is aimed to avoid political intervention in the admission process. Education minister Partha Chatterjee has informed all colleges that no student can be called to the campus during the admission process, Higher education secretary R S Shukla told reporters. Even the payment of fees will have to be made online, he added. "A clear policy has been adopted. The process will be online. It will transperent and merit based. A student can be called only to attend his or her classes," Shukla said. He said the final physical verification of documents can be undertaken by the colleges when a student comes to attend classes and any deviation from documents submitted online can lead to cancellation of the admission. The Delhi High Court Monday sought JNU's response on a plea by several women students seeking early hearing on a contempt petition filed against the varsity and a professor who is accused in a sexual harassment case. Justice J R Midha issued notices to the university, its vice chancellor, professor Atul Johri and Delhi Police on the early hearing application and listed the matter for consideration on July 2. The court also called for the records of the main petition on the next date. The students sought early hearing after the court on May 3 listed the contempt as well as the main petition for hearing on October 31. In the main petition, the students have challenged the clean chit given by JNU's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to the professor. The University of Sindh in Pakistan has cancelled the admission of a 22-year-old woman student, who received weapons training from the ISIS in Syria and was part of a failed plot to carry out a suicide attack on a church in Lahore. Naureen Leghari, a second-year student of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) in Jamshoro, Sindh, went missing in February 2017 from his native town of Hussainabad, a suburb of Hyderabad. She was arrested after two months from Lahore following an encounter in which her associate Ali was killed by security forces. After her arrest, LUMHS cancelled her admission. She then got admission in the English Department of the University of Sindh in November 2018 but when the varsity got knowledge of her background, it cancelled her admission, the News reported. An acting principal of a college and a government teacher were arrested in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district for allegedly taking bribe from a student for giving her relaxation in attendance and good marks in practical exams, an Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said Sunday. Government teacher Sanjay Jain and acting principal of Vardhaman Teachers Training College Savita Pathak were arrested on Saturday from the college office after the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 was allegedly recovered from them, ACB ASP Bhawani Shankar Meena said. Jain's wife is the director of the college. On May 13, a complaint was registered by the B.ED student Harshini Rathore that the accused had demanded a sum of Rs 30,000 from her to give her good marks in the practical exam. The accused were nabbed while taking the first installment of the bribe from the complainant, he said. During the search, receipts of lakhs of rupees in the name of 'Suvidha Shulk' from students was found from the college office, the ASP .
The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday arrested the director and the principal of a private college in Jhalawar district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a student to relax her attendance requirement and pass her in practical exams, an ACB official said. Vardhaman Teachers Training College's director Sanjay Jain, 50, and its acting principal Savita Pathak, 35, had demanded Rs 30,000 as bribe from Harshini Rathore, who is pursuing B.Ed from the college in Pidawa town, said Jhalawar ASP Bhawani Shankar Meena. The bribe amount was agreed for Rs 25,000 after negotiations, he added. Rathore had filed a complaint on May 13. The official said the accused were arrested accepting Rs 10,000 from the student, he said. The accused will be produced before ACB court in Kota Sunday, he added.
