Microsoft launches AI digital labs in India, to train 1.5 lakh students

Tech giant Microsoft Thursday said it will launch AI digital labs in the country in collaboration with 10 higher educational institutions, including BITS Pilani and ISB. As part of the three-year programme, Microsoft will support the select institutions with infrastructure, curriculum and content, access to cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) services as well as developer support, Microsoft said in a statement. This collaboration with colleges and universities will ramp up institutional setup along with educator capability, and provide relevant educational choices for students, helping them acquire the required skills, it added. "As AI becomes mainstream, organisations will require talent with skill sets that are very different from what exist now. Educators and institutions are integral to the skilling revolution taking root in the country," Microsoft India President Anant Maheshwari said. Fadnavis has agreed to reinstate internal SSC marks: Aaditya

Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray Thursday said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has agreed to reinstate the internal assessment marks of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) students from this academic year. Talking to reporters here, Aaditya, who is celebrating his 29th birthday on Thursday, said Fadnavis has also agreed to make special provision for more seats/division in colleges only for this year to accommodate SSC students, who otherwise wouldn't get admissions due to the "fiasco" of scrapping of the internal marks. The internal evaluation of 20 marks had been discontinued last year. The system existed between 2008 and 2018. SC to hear students' plea on NEET questions tomorrow

The Supreme Court will hear on Friday a plea filed by a group of students alleging that some questions in this year's National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) were out of the NCERT syllabus.A vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and Ajay Rastogi on Thursday agreed to hear the case after the lawyer for the students mentioned the matter for urgent hearing.The petition claimed that four questions in the NEET UG 2019 were wrongly set and were out of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus.The National Testing Agency (NTA) had announced the results of the examination on June 5.

Twenty winners of Tata Steel's Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) programme from Odisha have completed a week-long exposure trip to the space application centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Ahmedabad. Tripura takes IIT-Kanpur help to build data bank of schools

The Tripura government has roped in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Kanpur to prepare a data bank of state-run and state-aided schools, as part of its efforts to monitor the education system in the state, an official said. The bank, comprising information on the status of teachers, non-teaching staff and government programme implementation in primary and secondary schools, will be key to improve the overall education infrastructure, he said. The cost of the project - Data Intelligence Solution - will be borne by private companies under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, the education department official said. "A minister or a high-ranking officer will be able to access the data bank online," he explained. The project, which has been successfully implemented in Jharkhand, is also making its way to Bihar among other states, the official added.

Three girls go missing in Sangareddy in Telangana

Three girls were reported missing in Patancheru area of Sangareddy district in Telangana, police said Wednesday.According to the police, the girls have been identified as Aakula Sravanthi and Gayathri, both 17 years old students, and Shivani (24).Aakula Sravanthi and Gayathri are friends and went missing from their college here."Two girls -- Aakula Sravanthi and Gayathri -- who are friends and studying in intermediate in Patancheru Government Junior College had left from their residences at 10 am to the college. They did return to their homes in the evening. The girls' parents approached us after they did not return to their homes, " the police said.In the other case, 24-year-old Shivani, who works at a software company, left her home in Ranga Reddy area in the morning to her office but did not return late evening, afterwards her parents informed the police.Her friend said that he had dropped her to Patancheru in the evening.The police are further investigating the matters.

DU forms committee to see how EWS quota can be implemented

The Delhi University has formed a committee to look how the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota can be implemented for PhD and MPhil admissions. This year, the varsity has effected a 10 per cent increase in seats for the EWS in undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. The EWS category was not reflecting when candidates wanted to apply for MPhil and PhD admissions, leading the students to query the admission official. "A committee has been constituted to look how the EWS criteria can be implemented for MPhil and PhD. The seats for MPhil and PhD are not fixed and vary depending on the number of supervisors we have and the number of candidates who apply," said a varsity official. The university started registrations for postgraduate, MPhil and PhD courses on June 3. Till now, 17,873 students have registered for MPhil and PhD courses and 3,690 have made payments. Cabinet okays Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Bill

The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved the introduction of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Bill in the upcoming session of Parliament, which will allow filling up of more than 7,000 existing vacancies by direct recruitment in accordance with a new quota system, the HRD Ministry said. According to the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, the move is aimed at giving a major push to reforms in the education sector, making it inclusive and keeping in mind the aspirations of the people from different categories. The Bill will replace the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Ordinance, 2019.
