Mamata to unveil Vidyasagar's statue vandalised in political clash last month
West Bengal Chief Mamata Banerjee will on Monday participate in two events related to re-installing of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's bust at Vidyasagar College here.As per the event schedule, Banerjee will first pay floral tributes to the leader at a ceremonial programme at the Hare School ground on College street and then would walk on foot from there to the Vidyasagar college on Bidhan Sarani, where the statue will be re-installed in her presence.The bust of Vidyasagar, a 19th-century social reformer, was vandalised in clashes between BJP and Trinamool Congress workers at Vidyasagar College during BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow on May 14. Tripura govt to bear education related expenses of differently-abled student
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has announced that state government will bear all the education-related expenses of Pralay Dey, a differently-abled student who secured first division in class 10 board examination.Pralay, a resident of Gomati district, born with deformed hands, used his leg to write his exams and has secured first division marks in the class 10 board examination of Tripura.The boy was felicitated by Tripura Chief Minister on Monday.After meeting Pralay, the Chief Minister told ANI, "Stipend for Divyang students, scholarship, free higher education and other facilities will be given to him. Car of St Stephen's College professor vandalised in Delhi
St Stephen's College professor Nandita Narain's car was allegedly vandalised by unidentified persons inside the campus in Delhi, police said on Monday. The incident occurred last Thursday night when the vehicle was parked outside her residence within the college campus. Narain approached the police on Monday. According to the complaint, the front windscreen of the car was smashed with a heavy object. Police said legal action would be taken after verifying the facts. The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) condemned the incident of its former president, officials said. JNUSU writes to VC demanding revert to paper-based format for entrance exam
The JNU student union Monday said it has written to the Vice Chancellor of the university, urging him to initiate steps to revert to the previous paper-based format for conducting the institution's entrance examination. In a letter to Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, the JNUSU said, "It might have already come to your notice that from the time of the announcing of JNUEE to be conducted by NTA, there has been large-scale discrepancies and flaws." Students had to face difficulties at all stages of the entrance examination process right from the application process till the online test, claimed the letter signed by JNUSU president N Sai Balaji, and three other office-bearers of the union. "We are bringing to your attention two of the latest concerns -- paper leak and errors in answer key," the letter said. Sisodia visits four govt schools in south Delhi to inspect under-construction classrooms
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia visited four government schools in the city to inspect under-construction classrooms on Monday. He visited the four government schools located at Pushp Vihar, Shahpur Jat, Safdarjung Enclave and Green Park Extension in south Delhi to review the progress in the construction of classrooms, a statement issued by the Delhi government said. "I want daily progress reports with photos from each of these four schools and please raise the matter if the work stops even for a day," the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said. Sisodia has been visiting the schools run by the Delhi government as a part of efforts to speed up the construction of 13,003 classrooms to ensure that there is an adequate number of classrooms to accommodate students. The statement said the deputy chief minister inspected 164 under-construction classrooms in the four schools on Monday. Sisodia is also in charge of the education department of the Delhi government.
Tgana govt to start 119 residential schools for BCs on Jun 17
The 119 residential schools for Backward Classes, proposed to be started from this academic year in Telangana, would be inaugurated on June 17, the state government said Monday. "The 119 BC Residential Schools proposed to be started from this academic year in the state will be formally declared open on June 17 at their respective locations in the concerned districts and assembly constituencies," an official release said. The schools would be formally opened by either a state minister or the MLA concerned, it said. With the opening of the 119 schools, the total number of BC residential schools opened after formation of Telangana would go up to 261 from the existing 142, it said. Prior to the formation of the state, there were only 19 BC residential schools. "Thus, in all, there will be 280 Backward Classes residential schools," the release added.
TN to run 500 electric buses in three cities: Minister
: Tamil Nadu government has kicked off an initiative to run 500 electric buses in three cities - Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore of the state - in the first phase, Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar said Monday. Claiming that the K Palaniswami government was the first to sign an agreement with C-40 Cities Clean Bus Declaration to operate battery operated buses in the transport corporations, he said the government was taking steps to run 2,000 electric buses and 12,000 BSVI-compliant buses. "In the first phase, steps are being taken to run around 500 battery operated buses in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore," he told reporters. The government had signed an agreement with the C-40 Cities Clean Bus Declaration team in 2018 aimed at reducing carbon emissions by operating electric buses. To a query about Madras High Court raising queries on why the helmet rule was not enforced in the State, he said it has been made mandatory and added that wearing of helmets was followed .

DUSU chief meets Yogi, gets assurance for 1,000-bedded hostel
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has promised to construct a hostel with 1,000 beds for the students of the state studying in Delhi University (DU) colleges, Post-Graduate Departments, and research scholars, said DU Students' Union (DUSU) president Shakti Singh on Monday.Singh, who met Chief Minister Adityanath in Lucknow, briefed him about the shortage of hostel facility for the students from the state in DU. "The Chief Minister has promised to ensure that a hostel with a capacity of 1,000 berths is constructed. Delhi HC seeks Centre, DU's stand on plea challenging varsity's new admission norms
The Delhi High Court Monday sought to know the stand of the Centre and the Delhi University on a plea challenging its new admission norms for undergraduate courses. The court said there is arbitrariness in how criteria were amended just a day before opening of registration for admission. The plea by lawyer Charanpal Singh Bagri claimed that the varsity's decision to amend the criteria at the last moment was in violation of the principle of natural justice. The DU commenced registration for admission on May 30. It will close on June 14. The court has asked the Human Resource Development Ministry, represented by advocate Brajesh Kumar, and the varsity to file their replies to the plea by June 14, the next date of hearing. Students have been caught unaware as the eligibility criteria for some courses have been changed. In one-of-its kind feat, a boy from Mira Road locality neat Mumbai has scored exactly 35 marks, the absolute minimum required for passing, in every single subject in the SSC (Class X) exam of the Maharashtra Board. After the results declared on Saturday, this student, Akshit Jadhav, who studied in Shanti Nagar High School on Mira Road, has become a talk of the town.
