GST demand order for Eicher Motors reduced to Rs 27 crore on appeal

Eicher Motors on Friday said a GST demand order by tax authority in Tamil Nadu has been reduced to Rs 26.97 crore from an original sum of Rs 129.79 crore upon appeal. The company had received the original demand from the Additional Commissioner, Chennai North Commissionerate, Chennai, Tamil Nadu on December 30, 2023 for aggregate amount of Rs 129.79 crore, including tax demand of Rs 117.99 crore and penalty of Rs 11.79 crore. "As a result of the appeal filed by the company against the above GST demand order, the demand order is now revised from Rs 129.79 crore to an aggregate amount of Rs 26.97 crore, which include tax demand of Rs 24.52 crore and penalty of Rs 2.45 crore," Eicher Motors said in a regulatory filing. The matter pertains to non-reversal of input tax credit on material returned instead of output tax liability paid by the company for 2017-18. "Based on the company's assessment, the aforesaid revised demand is not maintainable and the company is evaluating all options .

VE Commercial Vehicles total sales decline 18.1% to 5,377 units April

Eicher Motors Ltd on Wednesday said its arm VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd posted an 18.1 per cent year-on-year decline in total sales to 5,377 units in April 2024. VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) -- a joint venture of the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors -- sold 6,567 units in April 2023, Eicher Motors said in a regulatory filing. April 2024 sales included 5,254 units of the Eicher brand and 123 units of the Volvo label, it added. In the domestic commercial vehicles market, Eicher branded trucks and buses recorded sales of 4,898 units last month compared to 6,142 units in April 2023. Exports of Eicher branded trucks and buses rose 38.5 per cent to 356 units compared to 257 units in April 2023, it added.

Royal Enfield wholesales increase 6% in February, exports rise 13%

Motorcycle maker Royal Enfield on Friday reported a 6 per cent year-on-year increase in wholesales to 75,935 units in February. The company, a part of Eicher Motors, had dispatched 71,544 units in the same month last year. Domestic sales were at 67,922 units last month as against 64,436 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 5 per cent, Royal Enfield said in a statement. Exports rose 13 per cent to 8,013 units compared to 7,108 units in February 2023, it added. "Over the last few months, while our new motorcycle launches have done exceedingly well, our existing motorcycles have also contributed to our strong growth momentum across bookings and retails," Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan said. "As we come to the close of the financial year, we are confident of a strong and healthy overall performance, and believe that we can continue this momentum for the next year as well," he said.

Eicher Motors gets Rs 130 cr tax demand notices, company to challenge

Eicher Motors has been served demand notices of over Rs 130 crore from three different authorities over issues related to GST, according to a regulatory filing by the company. The company has received a demand order for an aggregate amount of Rs 129.79 crore, including a penalty of Rs 11.8 crore and applicable interest from the office of the Principal Commissioner of CGST and Central Excise, Chennai, Eicher Motors said in a regulatory filing. The officer has disallowed certain GST credit and raised GST demand, largely on account of the difference in GST credit mismatch between the company's GST availment and details reported by suppliers in their GST returns, it added.
