Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) aims to launch eight battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in India by 2030, according to a senior company executive. The company currently sells one electric model -- Jaguar I-Pace -- in the country. In an interaction with PTI, JLR Chief Commercial Officer Lennard Hoornik said the automaker will commence taking orders for the Range Rover BEV for the Indian market next year with deliveries expected to begin in 2025. "We are planning to introduce at least 8 BEVs by the end of the decade in India," he noted. The British automaker, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors since 2008, aims to become a net-zero carbon business globally by 2039. Terming the Indian market a "big strategic priority" for the automaker, Hoornik noted that the country is in the right direction when it comes to transitioning into electric mobility. He said subsidy push in the initial phase, setting up the right amount of charging infrastructure and having a great product

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have developed a fully indigenous gallium nitride (GaN) power switch that can have potential applications in systems like power converters for electric vehicles and laptops, as well as in wireless communications. The entire process of building the switch from material growth to device fabrication to packaging was developed in-house at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), IISc. Due to their high performance and efficiency, GaN transistors are poised to replace traditional silicon-based transistors as the building blocks in many electronic devices, such as ultrafast chargers for electric vehicles, phones and laptops, as well as space and military applications such as radar, Bengaluru-based IISc noted in a press release on Wednesday. It is a very promising and disruptive technology, says Digbijoy Nath, Associate Professor at CeNSE and corresponding author of the study published in 'Microelectronic Engineering'. But
The objective of the meeting is to streamline the standards for battery-swapping technology, ensuring compatibility across various EV models and charging stations
The window to limit human-caused warming to a globally agreed goal is narrowing but still open because of the huge growth of solar energy and electric vehicles sales worldwide, a report said on Tuesday. For the last two years, the rate of the build up of solar energy and electric vehicle sales were in line with achieving emissions reductions targets that will help cap warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels, the Paris-based International Energy Agency said. But renewable power needs to triple by 2030, the sale of EVs needs to rise much more sharply 70 per cent of all vehicle sales as opposed to the current 13 per cent and methane emissions from the energy sector needs to fall by 75 per cent if global warming is to be curbed to the the Paris Agreement goal. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that is up to 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide in the short term. Investments in climate action also need to rise, from USD 1.8 trillion i

City-based Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited on Monday announced its entry to battery-grade aluminum foil, a critical component in lithium-ion cells, anticipating growing demand from Indian companies foraying into the new-age batteries. The company is a producer and exporter of aluminum foil for various industrial applications with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tonnes per annum. The company officials, however, did not elaborate on the capacity that would be catered to the battery segment or mention any capital expenditure for foraying into lithium-ion cell grade aluminium foil. Shyam Metalics in a statement said for the production of 1GWh (Gigawatt-hour) of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells, which power a wide variety of electric vehicles and energy storage systems, 350 tons of high purity and uniform-thickness aluminum foil is required that acts as a positive (cathode) current collector. The demand for aluminum foil doubles for sodium-ion batteries, where both positive
