A record 56 candidates, including two females, achieved 100 NTA score in engineering entrance exam JEE-Main, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Wednesday night. The qualifying percentile for JEE (Advanced), the entrance test for admission to the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), touched a five-year high. While 23 candidates in the JEE (Main) January session scored 100 NTA score, 33 candidates in the April session achieved it. The 56 toppers include 40 from the general category, 10 from the OBC category and six from the gen-EWS category. No candidate from the SC and ST categories managed to get 100 NTA score this year. Eight officials of the NISP and NMDC and two officials of MECON were also named in the FIR for receiving alleged bribe of around Rs 78 lakh in clearing bills of Rs 174 crore of Megha Engineering in connection with works related to Jagdalpur integrated steel plant, officials said Saturday. Megha Engineering had emerged as the second-biggest buyer of electoral bonds and donated the highest amount of about Rs 586 crore to the BJP, according to the data released by the Election Commission on March 21. There has been a 5 percentage points increase in campus hiring of women in 2022-23, compared to the previous year as companies in India are keen on inclusivity and diversity in the workplace, a report said on Monday. In FY23, 40 per cent of the fresh talent hired from college campuses were women, up from 35 per cent in the previous year, AI-powered recruitment automation firm HirePro said in the report. The report is based on evaluation of data during FY23, for a sample size of 5,50,000 BTech candidates across all five zones -- central, east, north, south, and west -- of the country. As per the report, a majority of women participated in campus hiring exams last fiscal for sectors such as IT, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and research and development (R&D). In a suspected case of suicide, an M.Tech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi was found hanging in his hostel room, police said on Friday. The matter came to light after the family of the student, Sanjay Nerkar (24), asked his hostel mates to check on him as he was not answering his phone, they said. Nerkar (24) stayed in room number 757 at Dronacharya Hostel. He was a native of Nashik, Maharashtra, a police official said. "Nerkar's family members called him on Thursday night. When he did not answer the phone, the family members asked his hostel mates to check on him," a police officer said. When the other students went to his room, they found it locked from inside. They informed the hostel guard, who broke open the door. Nerkar's body was found hanging from the ceiling of the room, the officer said. The student's family members have been informed and an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death, police said.

Over 63 per cent of the total candidates recommended by the Union Public Service Commission for the Civil Services Examination (Mains) during 2017-21 had Engineering degrees, Rajya Sabha was informed. Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh presented data of candidates recommended in CSE (Mains) which showed that out of 4,371 aspirants who appeared during the period, 2,783 were from the engineering stream. The statistics showed that 1,033 candidates came with humanities background, 315 from science and 240 medical graduates. In case of the candidates with higher degrees, humanities background contenders ruled the charts with 597 postgraduates in humanities and 243 postgraduates in engineering clearing the examination. The data presented by the minister on Thursday in response to a question showed that 3,265 male candidates (74.6 per cent) and 1,106 woman candidates (around 25.4 per cent) made it through the examination during 2017-21.
