Chitra cinema in Dadar shuts down its operations

Curtains came down at the iconic Chitra Cinema in Dadar on Thursday, seven decades after it was opened. The last show at the theatre was of Tiger Shroff-starrer "Student of the Year 2" at 9.30 pm on May 16. "We thought after hearing that the last show is on Thursday people might come but it did not turn out that way. The occupancy was very low. "It is the legacy of my grandfather that I have carried forward. It hurts to see it is closed," owner of the cinema hall, Dara Phiroz Mehta told PTI. The prime reason to shut down the single screen theatre was poor business. "We have shut down because it is not feasible to continue. Single screen theatres are closing down anyways across the country. Single screens are getting affected because there is competition from the multiplexes. "The number of people wanting to see a film in single screen is very less today. And we have been watching this trend since past few years," Mehta added. Grateful for opportunity: Priya Bapat on starting out with 'Munna Bhai...' series

People might still remember Priya Bapat for her appearances in Sanjay Dutt's critically-acclaimed "Munna Bhai" series but the actor says she never thought that the films would go on to become cult classics. Priya is now a known figure in the Marathi cinema, but back in early 2000s, the actor starred in "Munna Bhai MBBS" and its sequel "Lage Raho Munna Bhai", where she played the role of a medical student and a coffee shop girl, respectively. Looking back at the films, Priya says her landing the gig in the 2003 film was a pure happenstance. "Nothing was planned in my career. When I did 'Munna Bhai...', I was in college. One of our school teachers told me to play the role of a college student. I had to audition for the role and then I got selected as they liked me. "And for the second part of the film the makers called me directly. I am grateful for the opportunity," Priya told PTI in an interview. The actor believes she was naive to not understand the scale of "Munna Bhai...". "I knew .
