Chris Rock to reboot 'Saw' series for Lionsgate

Actor-comedian Chris Rock is set to reboot Lionsgate's highly-successful "Saw" franchise. The psychological horror series, which hails from Twisted Pictures, is synonymous for its gory murder sequences. The story follows the "Jigsaw Killer" or simply "Jigsaw", who often traps his victims in situations in order to test their will to live. The new film's script, written by written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, is based on a story conceived by Rock. He will also executive produce the project, reported Deadline. The actor said he plans to take the franchise into a "really intense and twisted new place". "I've been a fan of 'Saw' since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place," Rock said in a statement. The first film, directed by James Wan, was a major box-office hit in 2004. It spawned seven sequels over the years, grossing more than USD 1 billion worldwide. The upcoming reboot will release on October 23, 2020.

New 'Mortal Kombat' movie to release in March, 2021

Warner Bros has announced that its upcoming reboot of "Mortal Kombat" will hit the theatres worldwide on March 5, 2021. James Wan is producing the movie, along with Michael Clear, Todd Garner and Jeremy Stein, according to Deadline. The film, which recently started production in South Australia, will be directed by debutante filmmaker Simon McQuoid. Lawrence Kasanoff is executive producing. Greg Russo penned the most recent draft. The movie is based on the classic '90s arcade game. Paul WS Anderson's 1995 "Mortal Kombat" revolved around some of the game's classic characters, like Liu Kang and Johnny Cage, who were invited to a tournament on a mysterious island only to find out that the fate of the world hung in the balance. The film was followed by a sequel, "Mortal Kombat Annihilation", which released in 1997.

An Indian filmmaker, Achyutanand Dwivedi, made amends for his nation's disappointing no-show in the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. His three-minute film, "Seed Mother", won the third prize in the international section of Nespresso Talents 2019 in Cannes on Friday night. Veteran actor Harvey Keitel is set to portray gangster Meyer Lansky in an upcoming biographical drama film.
