Actor-director Mel Gibson is set to team up with Shia LaBeouf for the black comedy, "Rothchild". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be directed by Jon S Baird, best known for movies such as "Filth" and "Stan & Ollie". The story follows Becket Rothchild (LaBeouf), who was cast out from the family. As an adult, the charismatic Becket hatches a plan to get back into the family and claim his birth right. There are nine Rothchild family members who stand between him and his fortune including Whitelaw (Gibson), the family patriarch and villain of the piece. "Rothchild" is being produced by Unified Pictures. Keith Kjarval and Tyler Jackson will produce alongside Black Box Management's Lowell Shapiro and Mike Dill. HanWay Films recently boarded the project and will be looking for international buyers at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.
Veteran filmmaker Werner Herzog will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 European Film Awards. The 76-year-old filmmaker is considered a pioneer in the global cinema industry. He has films such as "Heart of Glass", "Even Dwarfs Started Small", "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" and "Rescue Dawn" to his credits. Herzog will be feted at the the 32nd European Film Awards on December 7 in Berlin, the organisers said in a statement. He is being recognised for his "outstanding body of work". Ironically, the director has never won a European Film Award and was only nominated once, in 1999 for "My Best Fiend", his documentary on longtime collaborator and German actor Klaus Kinski. Herzog recently released two documentaries -- "Meeting Gorbachev", on the former Soviet leader and "Nomad: In the Footsteps of Bruce Chatwin". His latest feature film, "Family Romance, LLC" is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

According to Variety, director John Lee Hancock, best known for "The Blind Side" and "The Highwaymen", will helm the Warner Bros. project from his own script. The story revolves around a burned-out Kern County deputy sheriff named Deke (Washington), who teams with a crack LASD detective, Baxter, to reel in a wily serial killer. Deke's nose for the "little things" proves eerily accurate, but his willingness to circumvent the rules embroils Baxter in a soul-shattering dilemma. If finalised, Malek will take on the role of Baxter. The studio hopes to begin production on the project by this summer.
