Meesho sees 65 mn unique visitors on Day 1 of festive sale; orders double

SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform Meesho on Saturday said it recorded about 6.5 crore unique visitors on its portal on Day 1 of the annual festive season 'Meesho Mega Blockbuster Sale'. Meesho Founder and CEO Vidit Aatrey said the company's app downloads reached around 1.5 crore ahead of the sale and the number of purchase orders has doubled on the first day of the sale on Friday as compared to that of the previous season. "By just 2 PM yesterday, we had already surpassed our previous best of highest orders placed on Day 1 previous year, and by the end of the day, that number had more than doubled. Around 6.5 crore unique customers visited the mobile app on Day 1," Aatrey said on a social media platform. According to a report by research firm Statista, the number of online shoppers was estimated to be about 25 crore across India in 2023 and it is likely to increase to 42.5 crore in 2027. E-commerce major Amazon India has launched a new generative AI-powered conversational shopping assistant, Rufus, ahead of the start of its festive sale event. Rufus enables natural language interactions within the Amazon app, making it easy to ask product-related questions, get recommendations, or compare products, the company said. "Whether typing or speaking, customers can now enjoy a more intuitive shopping experience, further enhanced by AI-powered tools like personalised recommendations and Alexa for seamless shopping assistance," Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President, Categories, Amazon India said. Amazon India to give up to 12% cut in selling fees ahead of festive season

Amazon India on Saturday announced an up to 12 per cent reduction in selling fees across multiple product categories on the marketplace ahead of the festive season. The reductions in fees, which is effective from September 9, will enable sellers to expand their product portfolio on the platform besides providing a boost to growth, Amazon India said. "With the changes, sellers on Amazon India will benefit from a drop in selling fees, ranging from 3-12 per cent, across various product categories", the company said. The new rate card will particularly benefit sellers offering products priced below Rs 500, it said. "At Amazon, we are invested in supporting businesses of all sizes, from small and medium businesses to emerging entrepreneurs to established brands. The fee reduction is directly in response to feedback from our sellers, especially small businesses," Amit Nanda, Director Selling Partner Services at Amazon India, said.
