S Chand, a leading textbook publisher and education content provider, is aiming to cross Rs 800 crore revenue in the current fiscal, supported by its core business growth and digital initiatives, its CFO Saurabh Mittal said on Tuesday. Internet giant Google has partnered with this 86-year-old publishing house to integrate its Google Lens with school textbooks for interactive learning tools, ensuring that students can access explanations, translations and problem-solving assistance. The initiative, in which students by scanning textbooks can access explanations and engaging video lessons, has already been integrated into over 300 textbook titles of S Chand, reaching over 5 million copies in print. Besides working on the digital side, S Chand, with its internal available cash, is also scouting for acquisitions to fill in the gaps in its offering, whether it is the test preparation section or international curriculum, he said. "We have enough cash within our system, ensuring we can go
Swift expansion of India's digital economy has cemented the country's status as a "powerhouse", Google India's Country Manager and Vice President Preeti Lobana has said, emphasising that a razor sharp focus on trust and security are key to sustaining the momentum in the AI era. In an interview to PTI, the newly appointed top executive of Google India asserted that the US tech firm is "deeply committed to having rich, thriving digital ecosystem when it comes to Android or Play Store". According to her, Google sees "competition" as means of making the "digital ecosystem richer". Lobana declined to comment on the specifics of the search giant's antitrust cases in the country (bundling of the Play Store with Android TV OS, a case that Google settled by paying Rs 20 crore or the Play Store policies case) but said the company complies with the local laws in any country it operates in. "So we will work with the government and any of the regulatory bodies to make sure we are complying," sh

Amazon has pledged to beef up fight against fake reviews, Britain's competition regulator said Friday after an investigation into whether big online platforms are doing enough to crack down on phony online ratings for products and services. The Competition and Markets Authority said it secured the undertakings from Amazon, after getting a similar agreement earlier this year from Google to clamp down on rogue reviews plaguing the internet. The company promised to strengthen its existing systems for fighting fake reviews. It will also tackle catalog abuse, which involves sellers boosting star ratings for a product by hijacking good reviews from a completely different one. As an example, a shopper might come across a pair of headphones with a five-star rating. But, after looking closer, most of the reviews are for a mobile phone charger, the watchdog said. As part of its commitments, Amazon has agreed to sanction anyone caught using these tactics. Businesses could be banned from selli

Google signed an agreement with Chile on Wednesday to deploy an undersea fiber optic cable connecting South America with Asia and Oceania, a first-of-its-kind project that aims to cement the South American country's status as a major digital hub. The Humboldt Cable, envisioned for deployment in 2027, is a 14,800-kilometer (9,200-mile) submarine data cable that will connect Chile's coastal city of Valparaso with Sydney, Australia through French Polynesia. The initiative is being launched almost a decade after it was first proposed in 2016, and six years after the initial studies to determine its feasibility. This is the first submarine cable in the South Pacific, so it's an important commitment", Chilean Transport Minister Juan Carlos Muoz told journalists. Chile, home to one of Google's largest data centers in Latin America, is currently connected to the United States and the rest of the region via an undersea cable. This cable also provides Chile with a longer route to other ...
