People helped in making dent in BJP's Guj fortress, hopefully we will win

AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday thanked the people of Gujarat for helping his party breach the BJP's Gujarat "fortress", and hoped to win the state in next assembly elections. In a video message, Kejriwal said though the AAP has not won many seats in Gujarat the votes it got helped it attain the national party status. "I am thankful to the people of Gujarat for helping us attain the status of national party. Very few parties enjoy the status and now we are one of them. Ours is only a 10-year-old party," he said. New entrant Aam Aadmi party (AAP) has won four Assembly seats so far and was leading on one in Gujarat where the BJP is headed for a landslide victory. Gujarat polls: BJP wins tribal-reserved Vyara seat by trouncing Cong MLA

BJP candidate Mohan Konkani wrested the Scheduled Tribe (ST) seat of Vyara in Tapi district of Gujarat by defeating four-time Congress MLA Punabhai Gamit, who was pushed to the third position due to an impressive show put up by new entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Vyara Assembly seat, which gave Gujarat its first tribal chief minister Amarsinh Chaudhary, for the first time witnessed a contest between two Christian candidates fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress. Gamit, who currently represented this assembly segment, had won the Assembly polls four times in a row starting from a byelection in 2004. BJP's Konkani won by a margin of 22,760 votes over his nearest rival from the AAP, Bipin Chaudhari. Konkani polled 69,024 votes, while Chaudhari received 46,264 votes. Congress' Gamit bagged 43,718 votes. Gamit was banking on the works he did in his constituency as an MLA and the traditional support that the party enjoyed in the region. The BJP ...

Gujarat Assembly elections: CM Bhupendra Patel wins from Ghatlodia

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday won a second consecutive victory from the urban constituency of Ghatlodia with a margin of 1.92 lakh. The BJP has already announced that Patel will retain the post of chief minister. Patel got 2,12,480 votes, against 21,120 votes polled by his Congress rival Amiben Yagnik. AAP candidate Vijay Patel was in the third place with 15,902 votes. Patidar-dominated Ghatlodia seat, which is part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, has given Gujarat two chief ministers -- Bhupendra Patel and Anandiben Patel. It is a stronghold of the BJP. In 2017, despite the Patidar quota agitation which made things difficult for the ruling party, Bhupendra Patel had won the seat with a margin of 1.17 lakh votes. Ghatlodia, which has around 3.70 lakh registered voters, was carved out as an assembly constituency following delimitation in 2012. Earlier, it was a part of Sarkhej constituency. In 2012, Anandiben Patel had won the seat with a margin

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which looks set to register a landslide victory in Gujarat Assembly polls with a record number of seats, on Thursday said Bhupendra Patel would continue as the Chief Minister of the state and his oath-taking ceremony would take place on December 12. Gujarat elections results: Trends show BJP headed for a sweeping victory

Counting of votes for a new assembly in Gujarat got underway Thursday, with early trends pointing to a sweeping victory for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that has not lost an election in the state since 1995. The BJP was leading in 42 seats, while Congress was ahead in six and the AAP was winning four seats, according to early trends reported by the Election Commission. Television channels, however, reported that BJP was ahead in more than 100 seats, the Congress in about 50 and the AAP was struggling to take its tally into double digits. The results of the two-phase elections, held earlier this month, will be watched more for the performance of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that seem to be locked in a battle to grab the status of the main opposition party in the state. While the Congress was not expected to replicate its creditable performance of the last Assembly elections in 2017, a good showing by AAP would have helped its leader Arvind Kejriwal cement his

Gujarat Assembly elections: BJP upbeat ahead of counting of votes

Buoyed by the exit polls, the ruling BJP in Gujarat is aiming for a straight seventh win in Assembly elections in the state, with hours left for counting of votes for elections held in two phases on December 1 and 5.
