Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said the Haryana government has decided to open drug de-addiction centres across the state. The government is constantly working to root out the drug menace from the state, Khattar said. "Taking a big step in this direction, the government has now decided to open drug de-addiction centres across the state," he said. Khattar said eminent personalities will also be entrusted with the task of running such centres with an aim to guide the youth and bring them on the right path. Haryana Cabinet gives nod to new Excise Policy 2023-24

The Haryana cabinet on Tuesday approved the new excise policy 2023-24, under which the retail permit fee has been imposed and the government aims to mop up Rs 400 crore for the environment and animal welfare fund. There has also been a nominal increase in rates of excise duty on country liquor and IMFL. The government aims to collect Rs 400 crore for Environment and Animal Welfare -- Gau Seva -- said in an official statement after the cabinet meeting held here Tuesday evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. "Reiterating the state government's commitment towards protecting the environment and animal welfare, the retail permit fee has been imposed in the new policy with a targeted collection of Rs 400 crore. Haryana Cabinet accepts backward classes panel report on reservation

The Haryana Cabinet on Monday accepted the State Backward Classes Commission's report on the proportion of reservation for the communities in urban local body elections, according to an official statement. The commission has recommended that every municipal body shall have at least one councillor belonging to backward classes Block-A if its population is not less than two per cent of the total population of the urban local body, it said. There are as many as 78 backward classes in the state and more than 70 of them fall in Block-A sub-category. The commission, headed by Justice (retired) Darshan Singh, conducted an empirical assessment of the political backwardness of the backward classes. In the assessment, the commission found that the backward classes Block-A are not adequately represented in the political setup, so they require the support of reservation in the elections of urban local bodies and municipalities for adequate participation in the grassroots democratic setup, ...

Haryana to launch comprehensive campaign for skill development schemes

Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Monday said the district-level agency led by Additional Deputy Commissioners will be reconstituted and strengthened to create a comprehensive skill development plan for each district. The primary objective of this initiative is to equip individuals with the specific skills required in various industries and design training programmes that cater to the needs of the local industry, Kaushal said. Haryana wrestling body suspends 3 officials for agitation against WFI chief

Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association (HAWA) has suspended the secretaries of three affiliated district units for their alleged involvement in the agitation against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in Delhi. HAWA president Rohtash Singh issued a letter suspending Virender Singh Dalal of Jhajjar, Sanjay Singh Malik of Hisar and Jai Bhagwan of Mewat, and termed their alleged involvement in the ongoing wrestling protest at the national capital as "unethical". The HAWA chief said that "all the three are still continuing their activities with the protesters, which is purely unethical and is against the objectives, rules and regulations of the WFI as well as HAWA." Families with power bills of Rs 12k to be eligible for BPL cards: Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said families with annual electricity bills up to Rs 12,000 will now also be eligible for BPL ration cards, thus raising this limit from earlier Rs 9,000, but the overall annual income limit will remain unchanged. They will also start receiving ration from this month onwards, according to an official statement. This announcement was made during the chief minister's address to the villagers in Abhimanyupur on the second day of his 'Jan Samwad' programme in Kurukshetra district. The statement said the income limit for Below the Poverty Line (BPL) cards will remain unchanged at Rs 1.80 lakh per annum. The Haryana government is heading in the right direction of public service through maximising the use of digital platforms, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday. Khattar was in Faridabad where he distributed tablets to kanungos and patwaris working in the Revenue department. Officials of Delhi and neighbouring Haryana will coordinate among themselves to enhance the impact of the efforts being made at the government level for cleaning and rejuvenating the Yamuna river, according to a statement. The statement from the Delhi lieutenant general's office said officials of the two states on Thursday attended the meeting of a high-level committee set up by the National Green Tribunal for the rejuvenation of the river. The meeting came following several rounds of discussions between Delhi L-G VK Saxena and Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar. Saxena who chaired Thursday's meeting described the rejuvenation of the Yamuna as a national mission and asked officials of the two states to proactively cooperate to achieve the goal. Area under paddy cultivation to increase to 200,000 acres in Haryana

The area under paddy cultivation through the direct seeding of rice (DSR) technique will be increased to two lakh acres in Haryana. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday said that the area under direct seeding will be increased from 73,000 acres to nearly 2 lakh acres. "This will save 218 MCM (million cubic metres) of water. For this, provision will be made for availability of machinery and subsidy," he added. Khattar also said that in the next two years, 50 per cent of the demand for water in the agriculture sector would be met by the treated wastewater of sewage treatment plants. Besides, 100 per cent of the treated wastewater will be reused in 18 out of 31 Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation estates in the next two years, he noted. NHRC issues notices to Hry govt, Gurugram municipality over sewer death

The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Haryana government, the Gurugram Police and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram after the decomposed body of a man was pulled out from an open sewer. Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report, the commission said it is issuing the notices "over the reported death of the man after falling into a open sewer in Gurugram". The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said Badshahpur police personnel received information on April 20 that foul smell was coming out from an open sewer manhole near the Vatika Chowk area on Sohna Road. When a police team reached there, they spotted a body inside the sewer, it said. The decomposed body was taken out by a fire brigade team from the 10-feet-deep sewer, it said and added that a laptop bag, a mobile phone and a power bank were also recovered.
